Compensation: $20.00 to $24.00 per hour

Schedule:Monday through Friday, daytime hours aligned with camp operations
Reports to:Banquet Chef and Camp Director

About Larchmont Yacht Club and Camp Seagull

Larchmont Yacht Club is one of the nation's premier yacht clubs, known for excellence in sailing, sportsmanship, and community. Set on an 11-acre waterfront campus along Long Island Sound and just outside New York City, the Club offers a unique blend of tradition, recreation, and family-focused programming.

At the center of the Club's youth experience is Camp Seagull, a well-established summer day camp serving children from pre-school through 4th grade. Camp Seagull provides a dynamic and engaging environment where children build confidence, develop new skills, and form lasting friendships. Daily activities include swimming, arts and crafts, outdoor games, team challenges, and creative play. Safety, structure, and a positive atmosphere are central to the program.

The Camp Cook plays an important role in supporting this experience by preparing fresh, balanced meals and snacks that keep campers energized throughout the day.

Position Summary

The Camp Cook is responsible for planning, preparing, and serving daily meals and snacks for campers and camp staff. This role focuses on delivering simple, nutritious, and kid-friendly food in a timely and organized manner while maintaining a clean and safe kitchen environment.

This position is ideal for individuals with experience in school cafeterias, camps, childcare settings, or high-volume kitchens who enjoy working independently and take pride in preparing food for children.

Successful candidates are organized, dependable, and understand how to balance efficiency, food safety, and quality in a fast-paced setting.

Key Responsibilities

Meal Preparation and Service

  • Plan and prepare daily lunches and snacks for campers and camp staff based on established menus and headcounts
  • Prepare meals that are age-appropriate, balanced, and appealing to young children
  • Ensure all food is ready on schedule to support camp activity transitions
  • Serve meals in a safe, organized, and efficient manner

Menu Planning and Inventory

  • Assist in developing simple rotating menus that meet nutritional guidelines and budget expectations
  • Monitor inventory levels and communicate ordering needs to the culinary team
  • Utilize available ingredients efficiently while minimizing waste

Food Safety and Sanitation

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen at all times
  • Follow all local health department regulations and food safety standards
  • Ensure proper storage, labeling, and rotation of all food items
  • Maintain cleanliness of kitchen equipment, prep areas, and service spaces

Program Support

  • Coordinate with the Camp Director and staff regarding daily schedules, allergies, and dietary restrictions
  • Adapt meal preparation when needed to accommodate special dietary needs
  • Assist with occasional special events or themed camp days involving food

Ideal Background
