Sales Director - Media, Data, Branded Content & Events

Motorsport Network

New York, NY • On-site

Full-time

Job description

About Motorsport Network
Motorsport Network is a global, always-on media, technology and events ecosystem and platform uniquely positioned at the intersection of motorsport, automotive, and mobility. Reaching over 40 million fans across 25+ markets, the company operates some of the world's most authoritative brands including Motorsport.com, Autosport, Motor1, Ride Apart, and InsideEVs, delivering live awards and event experiences, premium content, branded content, video, and podcasts that span racing, performance automotive, electric vehicles, and the future of mobility.

The Opportunity
As Director, Sales - General Market, you will own Motorsport Network's commercial relationships across the full breadth of the US advertiser landscape that sits outside the categories held by our dedicated Head of Industry teams. This is an IC, hunter-oriented role built for a true generalist: someone who has excellent client and agency contacts, and can walk into virtually any category - QSR, insurance, telecommunications, pharma and healthcare, CPG, and dozens more - and find the right way to connect that brand to our motorsport and auto audience.
Where our Heads of Industry go deep on a small number of sectors, you go wide. Your mandate is to open doors across many categories simultaneously, be the face of Motorsport Network and identify where the motorsport audience's demographics create a compelling story for a brand that has never considered our platform, and build the initial relationship - determining, over time, whether an account should scale into its own dedicated vertical.
This role sits within the core commercial organization and reports to the Global Chief Commercial Officer. You will be a primary point of contact for agencies and brands (often challenger brands) who don't fit neatly into an existing or assigned industry.
The best candidate for this role is a versatile, curious, and resourceful seller who thrives on prospecting broadly rather than mining a single sector, and who can quickly become credible on the media dynamics, seasonality, and creative conventions of a category.

What We're Looking For
Essential
  • 8+ years of senior commercial experience in media (preferably sports or motorsports), sponsorship, branded content, marketing, events or partnerships, with a demonstrated ability to sell across multiple platforms and verticals rather than a single sector specialization
  • A proven new-business hunter track record able to build pipeline and close deals from cold outreach, not just manage inbound demand
  • An existing network of brand-side marketing decision-makers and agency partners spanning several non-endemic categories
  • A strong track record closing six- and seven-figure partnership deals at a media, sports, or entertainment property
  • Excellent communication, storytelling, and negotiation skills
Highly Valued
  • Experience at a sports media or motorsports property, rights holder, or premium publisher selling across a broad portfolio of non-endemic categories
  • Existing relationships in QSR, insurance, telecommunications, pharma/healthcare, or CPG a plus
  • A track record of opening new categories or verticals from zero, not just inheriting an existing book of business
  • Comfort operating in a globally distributed, fast-moving, entrepreneurial environment
  • Genuine curiosity about motorsport and the high-performance automotive world and affinity for the culture makes this role significantly more effective
This is a hybrid position, working 3/4 days from the office
