Position Title: Director of Nursing - Stephenson Cancer Center Department: SCC Clinic Administration - Cancer Services Job Description: The Director of Nursing for the Stephenson Cancer Center flagship site in Oklahoma City provides strategic and operational leadership for nursing and clinical services. This role is responsible for advancing excellence in oncology nursing practice, patient experience, and clinical outcomes within Oklahoma’s only NCI-Designated Cancer Center. This leader will champion a multidisciplinary, research-driven, and patient-centered model of care, ensuring seamless collaboration across specialties and the integration of cutting-edge clinical research into routine care delivery. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Nursing & Operations, the Director will oversee day-to-day clinical operations while partnering with physician leadership, research teams, and system executives to support the growth of multiple destination oncology programs. This leader plays a critical role in ensuring alignment with NCI standards, TJC and CMS regulatory requirements, and the Cancer Center’s mission of delivering world-class, cancer care. General Description: An OU Health Director of Nursing oversees nursing operations and overall performance of their department(s), maintaining nursing practice standards and upholding the nursing code of ethics to ensure the highest quality of safe, patient care delivery. They model the OU Health Way, as evident in their work output and interactions with employees and patients, through living OU Health’s core values of putting Patients First, pursuing Relentless Excellence, showing Integrity, seeking Inclusion for all staff and patients, always Learning, and valuing Teamwork. Essential Responsibilities Accountable for clinical care and departmental performance and metrics. Supports strategic initiatives through establishing quality initiatives in patient care delivery that promote a culture of safety, civility and mitigates bias. Develops and updates performance improvement tools, productivity reports, fiscal status and quality statistics. Resolves patient complaints in a timely manner in accordance with policy and in collaboration with support staff. Establishes and implements policies and procedures. Ensures compliance with all relevant regulatory bodies. Manages department budget and resources, and understands the organization’s financial processes. Aligns behaviors with OU Health values, serving as a role model for staff in professional practice. Representative for the OU Health nursing body, working closely with senior leadership and other healthcare professionals throughout the organization to ensure quality patient care. Serves as a resource for physicians and staff. Fosters an inclusive workforce where individual differences are valued and maximized to achieve OU Health’s winning aspiration. Effectively manages the selection, retention and performance of the team through coaching, providing real-time feedback, training and routine recognition practices. Develops the ability of others to perform and contribute to the achievement of the organization’s metrics. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Education: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required. Master's in Nursing, Business, Healthcare Administration or relevant field of study required. Experience: 5 - 7 years of progressive leadership experience. License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration: Current Registered Nurse License (RN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing, or a current multistate compact Registered Nurse (eNLC) with established residency within 6 months. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of academic medical center structure, service-line structures, institutional governance and hierarchy of decision process. Skills in planning, coordinating and measuring departmental activities. Demonstrated business acumen and managerial functions such as experience with performance improvement tools, using metrics to drive decisions, maintain a budget, report writing and solve practical problems. Ability to leverage resources, including technology, to manage multiple competing priorities and deliver on organizational goals. Knowledge of industry standards to aid strategic decisions, problem solve and calculate risk. Ability to think creatively and strategically to successfully mediate with individuals/groups. Cognizant of unconscious and systemic bias in care delivery and business operations. Demonstrated ability to overcome obstacles to cooperation and to foster harmonious relations. Ability to maintain integrity and trust among leadership and staff. Proven ability to lead and motivate individuals, groups/cross-functional teams and provide project management support.
