Summary:
Ashley is seeking a motivated Database Specialist Intern to join our data management team. This internship opportunity is open to both current students and recent graduates who are passionate about data architecture, database systems, and learning enterprise-level data management practices. The intern will work closely with our database administrators and data engineers to support critical database operations, optimization projects, and data integrity initiatives across our organization.
Responsibilities:
• Assist in designing, implementing, and maintaining database structures to support business applications and data warehousing needs.
• Support database performance monitoring, query optimization, and troubleshooting efforts.
• Help develop and execute SQL queries, stored procedures, and scripts for data extraction, transformation, and reporting.
• Participate in data quality assessments and implement data validation processes • Contribute to database documentation including data dictionaries, schema diagrams, and standard operating procedures.
• Assist with database backup, recovery, and security procedures under supervision.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
• Support data migration projects and system integration initiatives.
• Conduct research on emerging database technologies and best practices to recommend improvements.
Qualifications required:
Education: Currently enrolled in or recently completed (within 12 months) a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Management Information Systems, or related field.
Experience: Foundational knowledge of relational database concepts and SQL; academic projects or coursework involving database design and management.
Additional Qualifications, preferred:
• Hands-on experience with database management systems such as SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Oracle.
• Familiarity with database design principles, normalization, and ER modeling.
• Experience with data visualization or business intelligence tools (Power BI, Tableau, etc.)
• Understanding of NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Redis, etc.) or cloud database platforms (Azure SQL, AWS RDS.)
• Knowledge of programming or scripting languages (Python, PowerShell, T-SQL.)
• Previous internship or work experience in a data-related role.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Self-motivated with eagerness to learn new technologies and methodologies.
Work Environment:
This position is located in a climate-controlled office environment with standard lighting and moderate noise levels typical of professional workspace settings. The role primarily involves sitting at a desk for extended periods while working with computers, phones, and other office equipment. The collaborative environment includes interaction with team members and may require attendance at meetings, conference calls, and cross-departmental communications during regular business hours.
Pay: $18.00- $22.00
