This job is responsible for providing advanced database administration and technical leadership for our global database and data warehousing products.

We are looking for a Senior Database Engineer who will:

  • Provides technical direction for DBMS standards such as software delivery, patch policies, database tuning, performance recommendations, and application design recommendations.
  • Designs, recommends, and implements backup and recovery policies and procedures. Designs business continuity architecture and ensures it meets the needs of the business. Review new & revised business continuity process and design.
  • Provides suggestions and standards for documentation that will lead to better efficiencies and information sharing within the team or across the organization.
  • Provides technical recommendations for advanced database components (replication, security, clustering, and partitioning). Researches and analyzes available DBMS functionality and makes suggestions for implementation. Design standard work-plans; push for automation/efficiency; drives for compliancy to standards.
  • Work as part of a team and provide 24x7 support when required; Identify and resolve complex database in a timely manner. Provides technical leadership on problem calls; provides focus and drive for resolution and root cause analysis. Opens & works tickets with DBMS vendors; helps other team members to drive vendors to resolution.
  • Identifies global problems and drives to correct across the ecosystem. Provides options for resolution and drives to automate a solution.
  • Makes design recommendations for daily operational checks, audits, and event management. Drives toward automation and standardization.
  • Provides standards for shell scripting and ensures scripts are written to standard. Writes complex shell scripting and reusable components. Makes suggestions for standards across the enterprise, including automation & efficiencies.
  • Mentors & trains junior team members. Provides technical leadership for the DBA team.
  • Works with cross-functional teams on designing high-performance database solutions for the value stream and platforms. Ability to understand all system and application level concepts/components for a given value stream. Leads technical efforts for projects & initiatives.
  • Provides database tuning and performance analysis for value streams and platforms; ability to work closely with other teams (networking, storage, system administration, application) and make recommendations on improvements.

  • Associates/Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.
  • 7-10 years of database administration experience
  • Experience with multiple OS platforms (z/OS, Exadata, Linux, Windows)
  • Experience with a variety of database implementations & applications in a production environment.
  • Experience and knowledge on concepts such as OS (i.e. z/OS, *NIX, Intel, Linux), storage (SMS, SAN, NAS, DA), Network, LAN, WAN and TCIP/IP, Virtual environments, Cloud computing

Preferred

  • Experience with mainframe z/OS interfaces, monitors, security, tools preferred.
  • Experience with Enterprise Agility methodologies and demonstrated experience, experience with SAFe and DevOps preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Advanced & thorough OS knowledge (z/OS) - Utilities, Interfaces, Output/Spool Facilities, WLM
  • Advanced database networking concepts
  • Advanced & thorough understanding of DB2 z/OS RDBMS (SQL, Utilities, Security, Recovery)
  • Proficiency in Security concepts and admin (RACF, ACF2, Top Secret, AD)
  • Working knowledge of storage administration
  • Proficiency in performance monitors (RMF, Omegamon, Sysview)
  • Thorough understanding of database relational modeling, design concepts, & implementations.
  • Advanced understanding of & experience with common DBA tools
  • Proficiency in RDBMS tuning (application, subsystem, & operating system levels)
  • Ability to independently troubleshoot complex problems
  • Ability to easily & calmly handle technical crises
  • Understanding of CICS, Cobol, Assembler, and Java to code, debug, & optimize database access
  • Excellent time management
  • Shell or power scripting ability (REXX or similar language)
  • Ability to use a personal computer. Proficiency with other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language in a business environment.

This range represents the low and high end of the salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary based on factors including but not limited to geographical location and experience.
