Job description

Responsibilities
We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative Data Visualization Specialist to join our team in the greater DMV area, supporting the Army National Guard.
Responsibilities
  • Lead design and delivery of enterprise data visualization solutions (dashboards, analytic apps, executive reports) using Power BI, Tableau, or equivalent BI platforms.
  • Architect scalable, high-performance visualization frameworks with governed semantic models, role-based security, and optimized refresh/processing strategies.
  • Oversee data preparation, modeling, and validation (ETL/ELT, semantic layers, measures/calculations) to ensure data integrity, lineage, and consistency across reporting assets.
  • Implement interaction design patterns: parameterization, drill-throughs, bookmarks, paginated reports, and responsive visual layouts for varied user audiences.
  • Establish QA and release management processes for visualization artifacts: testing, performance tuning, refresh orchestration, and defect remediation.
  • Translate strategic objectives into standardized KPIs, governed report templates, and reusable visualization components in collaboration with senior stakeholders.
  • Document architecture, calculation logic, governance controls, and lifecycle processes to support audit readiness and maintainability.
  • Integrate visualizations with analytics pipelines and data governance practices to ensure traceability and compliance.
  • Mentor junior visualization engineers, codify visualization standards, and introduce advanced analytics/visual techniques and automation opportunities.

  • Minimum of 8 years with BS/BA; Minimum of 6 years with MS/MA; Minimum of 3 years with PhD
  • Clearance: Active TS/SCI clearance.
  • Candidate must meet ONE of the following:
    • Master's degree or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field; OR
    • Relevant DoD/military training (examples: M0923W1; A-102-5888; A-102-5599 (SNOOP); C-150-1401; W-150-4575; S-250-1095; A-531-0022; A-531-0009; A-531-0045; A-113-0381; A-113-0342; A-121-0594 (P/L); A-104-0084; A-150-4219 (P/L); A-150-9020 (P/L); C-531-0038); OR
    • Relevant professional certification or equivalent experience (examples: SecurityX/CASP+, CCNP Security, CCSP, FITSP-O, GFACT).
  • Required experience and skills:
    • Data visualization, BI engineering, or analytics platform experience with at least 3 years leading enterprise visualization initiatives.
    • Expert proficiency with Power BI, Tableau, or other enterprise BI platforms, including semantic modeling, DAX/MDX (for Power BI), or equivalent expression languages.
    • Strong data modeling and ETL/ELT skills, familiarity with data warehouses/lakes, and experience ensuring lineage and auditability for analytic outputs.
    • Demonstrated ability to tune performance for large datasets, manage refresh cadence, and implement scalable reporting architectures.
    • Excellent documentation skills for architectures, calculation logic, governance procedures, and audit evidence.
    • Ability to engage senior stakeholders to define KPIs, reporting requirements, and governed delivery roadmaps.
  • Desired:
    • Prior DoD/ARNG or large-enterprise visualization program experience.
    • Experience integrating visualizations with advanced analytics (ML outputs), automated report generation, and self-service analytics enablement.
    • Familiarity with RMF/evidence needs, data governance integration, and secure handling of classified/unclassified reporting environments.

Target Salary Range
$104,000 - $166,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
