Job description

Data Cabling Technician

TEKsystems is seeking experienced Data Cabling Technicians to support structured cabling projects throughout the Chattanooga area. This is a great opportunity for technicians with hands-on commercial experience who are ready to take on more responsibility and grow into advanced low-voltage systems.


Position Overview

We are looking for technicians who can work independently in commercial environments, confidently pull and route cable, and complete clean, high-quality terminations. You will work alongside experienced leads while contributing directly to the execution of large-scale structured cabling installations.

Projects will vary between active construction sites and live office environments, so adaptability and professionalism are key.


Key Responsibilities
  • Independently pull, route, and install low-voltage cabling (CAT5e, CAT6, CAT6A)
  • Work with pathways such as J-hooks, conduit, and drop ceilings
  • Perform high-volume data terminations including:
    • RJ45 connectors
    • Keystone jacks
    • Patch panels (MDF/IDF environments)
  • Follow T568A/B wiring standards with accuracy
  • Bundle, dress, and secure cable using Velcro and proper cable management practices
  • Label both ends of cable runs according to project specs and industry standards
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area and adhere to site safety protocols
Required Qualifications
  • 1–3 years of commercial low-voltage or structured cabling experience
  • Proficiency with cable pulling, routing, and termination
  • Familiarity with TIA/EIA wiring standards
  • Comfortable using hand tools and basic power tools
  • Ability to read basic prints/layouts is a plus
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Ability to:
    • Lift up to 50 lbs
    • Climb ladders and work at heights
    • Work in tight or confined spaces
  • OSHA 10 certification preferred
Additional Experience (Preferred)
  • CCTV, access control, or A/V system installation
  • Fiber optic experience (or interest in learning)
  • Experience working in MDF/IDF rooms

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chattanooga, TN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $26.00/hr.
