What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Data Systems Analyst, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Data Systems Analyst, you need strong analytical abilities, data management expertise, and a relevant degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field. Familiarity with database management systems (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle), data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI), and sometimes certifications like Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) are valuable. Excellent problem-solving, attention to detail, and effective communication are key soft skills for translating business requirements into technical solutions. These skills ensure accurate data analysis, system optimization, and successful collaboration between IT and business stakeholders.

What are the most common challenges Data Systems Analysts face when integrating new data sources?

Data Systems Analysts often encounter challenges such as data incompatibility, inconsistent formats, and incomplete documentation when integrating new data sources. Addressing these issues typically requires close collaboration with data engineers and source system owners to ensure proper data mapping and validation. Additionally, analysts must be vigilant about data security and compliance requirements during integration. Developing robust ETL (extract, transform, load) processes and thorough testing are essential for successful integration and ongoing reliability.

What is a Data Systems Analyst?

A Data Systems Analyst is a professional who designs, implements, and maintains data systems to help organizations collect, process, and analyze information efficiently. They work closely with both technical and business teams to ensure that data systems meet organizational needs and support decision-making. Their responsibilities often include analyzing data flows, optimizing database performance, and troubleshooting issues. Data Systems Analysts also help ensure data integrity, security, and compliance with regulations.

Will AI replace a data analyst?

AI tools can automate routine data processing and analysis tasks, but data analysts are essential for interpreting complex insights, making strategic decisions, and understanding context. The role of a data analyst involves skills like critical thinking, communication, and domain knowledge that are not easily replaced by AI. Therefore, while AI may augment the work of data analysts, it is unlikely to fully replace them in the near future.

What is the difference between Data Systems Analyst vs Data Analyst?

  • Develop, test, and maintain business rules, transformation rules, calculations, and data load processes within OneStream
  • Support integrations between OneStream and external systems (e.g. General Ledgers and Enablon), including data mapping and automation
  • Build and enhance interactive dashboards, Cube Views, reports, and data entry forms to improve financial visibility and operational efficiency
  • Troubleshoot system issues, manage releases, and support upgrades/ enhancements

About Steel Dynamics

Sourced by ZipRecruiter

Steel Dynamics is one of the largest and most diversified domestic steel producers and metals recyclers in the United States, with an estimated steelmaking and coating capacity of approximately 13 million tons, and facilities located throughout the United States and in Mexico. We operate using a circular manufacturing model, producing lower-carbon-emission, quality steel using electric arc furnace (EAF) technology with recycled ferrous scrap as the primary input. Our circular economy is powered by our three primary operating platforms: steel, metals recycling, and steel fabrication. Our steel operations produce steel products, including hot roll, cold roll, and coated sheet steel, structural steel beams and shapes, rail, engineered special-bar-quality steel, cold finished steel, merchant bar products, and specialty steel sections. Our metals recycling operations collect and process ferrous and nonferrous scrap from manufacturing and end-of-life items, such as automobiles, appliances, and machinery. This processed scrap is then sold to end-users for reuse, including our EAF steel mills, which produce new steel from the scrapped material. We sell a meaningful amount of steel to our own steel fabrication operations that in turn produce and sell structural steel joist and deck building systems to consumers.
