Job description

Job Title: Cloud Migration Project Manager
Location: Tallahassee, FL
Employment Type: W2 with ZipStaff

About the Opportunity
ZipStaff is seeking an experienced Cloud Migration Project Manager to support a large-scale enterprise modernization initiative for a state government agency.

This role will plan, coordinate, and deliver the migration of applications, data, and infrastructure to the cloud. You will own migration timelines and partner closely with engineering, security, architecture, and business teams to ensure smooth, low-risk transitions in a complex, multi-workstream environment.

What You’ll Do:
  • Serve as Cloud Migration Project Manager with clear ownership of migration project timelines and deliverables.
  • Develop and maintain detailed migration plans covering scope, schedules, system dependencies, resource allocation, and rollback strategies.
  • Lead day-to-day delivery of cloud migration workstreams, tracking progress against milestones and proactively managing risks and issues.
  • Coordinate workloads and dependencies across cloud environments and align with architects and engineers on target-state designs.
  • Act as the primary point of contact between technical teams, business units, vendors, and leadership.
  • Identify risks early, maintain risk/issue registers, and manage change requests through formal processes.
  • Plan and orchestrate cutover and go-live activities, including readiness checks, communications, and contingency planning.
  • Maintain strong project documentation, CRAIDL logs, and lessons-learned reviews.
  • Support budget monitoring, cloud spend forecasting during transition, and resource scheduling.
  • Work under the direction of the Agency’s Project Management Office lead and perform related project management tasks as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • 3–5 years of project management experience, including at least 2 years on cloud or infrastructure projects.
  • Proven track record of delivering large-scale enterprise IT projects involving multiple teams and cross-departmental dependencies.
  • Working knowledge of at least one major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud).
  • Familiarity with cloud migration approaches (lift-and-shift, re-platforming, re-architecting).
  • Strong understanding of project management methodologies (Agile, Scrum, and/or Waterfall).
  • Experience managing project plans, timelines, and budgets through full delivery lifecycles.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical details for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with project management tools (e.g., Jira, MS Project, MS Planner).
  • Experience coordinating migrations in multi-cloud or hybrid-cloud environments.
  • Project management certification (PMP or Certified ScrumMaster preferred).
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Exposure to Infrastructure-as-Code and DevOps practices (Terraform, CI/CD pipelines).
  • Familiarity with networking, security, and data migration considerations in cloud environments.
  • Experience in government, healthcare, or large public-sector IT modernization programs.
