Job description

Primary Purpose

The Graphic Designer supports the creation and delivery of visual content that promotes DASNY’s mission, projects, and strategic initiatives across New York State. Under the direction of the Assistant Director, Brand Development and Strategic Initiatives, this role contributes to a wide range of creative projects, from graphic design and photography to video production and editing, to help showcase DASNY through dynamic, high-quality visuals.

Essential Functions

  • Design and produce engaging visual materials for digital and print platforms, including reports, brochures, event collateral, presentations, web graphics, and social media content. Ensuring adherence to DASNY’s branding standards and New York State branding guidelines.
  • Capture and edit photography and video for use in marketing materials, digital campaigns, and DASNY events.
  • Support all phases of multimedia production, including planning, shooting, editing, and archiving photo and video assets.
  • Ensure all creative outputs adhere to DASNY’s brand identity and accessibility standards.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to transform technical and project-based information into visually compelling narratives.
  • Prepare design files and media for publication and production, ensuring accuracy and quality control.
  • Maintain and organize DASNY’s creative asset library, including photos, videos, templates, and design files.
  • Contribute innovative ideas and creative approaches to enhance DASNY’s storytelling and visual impact.
  • Remain current on design, photography, and video trends, as well as emerging tools and best practices in digital media

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Undertakes special assignments as directed.
  • Must maintain regular attendance in accordance with DASNY attendance and leave policies.
  • Must adhere to the NYS Information Security Policy Standards established and issued by the Office of Cyber Security and Critical Infrastructure Coordination. 

 

Supervision

Supervision of employees may be required.

Physical/Mental/Visual Demands

Travel is required using public transportation, DASNY vehicle, rental vehicle, or personal vehicle. This travel may include overnight stays at public accommodations and related establishments. Overtime or extended work hours may be required.

Standard office environment.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, Visual Communications, Media Arts, or a related field; or

Associate’s degree plus three years of relevant experience; or  

High School Diploma or equivalent and five years of relevant experience.

All candidates must have proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Lightroom). Experience with photography and videography, including camera operation, lighting, and post-production editing. Understanding of design principles, typography, layout, color theory, and visual composition.

Preferred Qualifications

 Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, Visual Communications, Media Arts, or a related field plus one year of experience in graphic design, multimedia production or marketing communications preferrable in public sector setting. proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Lightroom). Experience with photography and videography, including camera operation, lighting, and post-production editing. Understanding of design principles, typography, layout, color theory, and visual composition.

Employees may only telecommute on up to four (4) workdays per pay period and shall be limited to no more than two (2) contiguous telecommute workdays. Eligibility applies after 3 months of employment.
  • Limited Work from Home (LWFH) – additional telecommute days according to DASNY’s Telecommuting Program Guidelines. Eligibility applies after 6 months of employment.
  • DASNY is a government employer for purposes of the Public Services Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF Program). The PSLF Program forgives the remaining balance of certain student loans after making 120 qualifying monthly payments.
