Summary

Responsible for critical functions of the Meat Department including meat cutting, merchandising, and clean-up.

Meat Cutters must be able to promote Mackenthun's Exceptional Experience by assisting customers, answering customer questions about Mackenthun's meats and specialty meat products including Mackenthun's Homemade Sausage products.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Responsible for performing critical meat cutting functions to include, but not limited to; safe food handling, receiving, stocking, cutting, wrapping, displaying, and rotating all items in the meat department.

Wash, rinse, and sanitize all meat equipment.

Other Duties

Responsible for stacking cooler.

Freezer stocking of lunch meat.

Rotating general housekeeping duties throughout the department.

Other duties as assigned.


Requirements

Qualifications

High School diploma or GED equivalent required. Meat-cutting school is preferred, but not necessary.

Previous Meat/Retail experience preferred.

Must be able to clearly speak, read, and write the English language.

Provide supervision as needed to ensure excellent customer service and personal productivity.

Work as part of a team and independently.

Skilled in basic math.

Minimize department losses due to improper product handling, storage, damage and spoils.

Perform duties in a manner that safeguards company equipment, resources and image.

Positive and creative trend-setter with excellent customer service skills, problem solving and decision making skills.

Interest in selling food and a desire to learn the characteristics and qualities of the products and services Mackenthun's offers.

HACCP and Food Safety Certification required.

Work a flexible schedule to include daytime, evenings, weekends and holidays (ability to work shifts between the hours of 6am-8pm).

Physical Demands

Constant standing, walking, seeing and hearing 100% of time.

Frequent bending at waist, repetitive motions, twisting, reaching arm's length/above shoulders/below waist, handling, crouching/stooping/kneeling, climbing stairs, climbing ladders, and lifting, carrying up to 80 lbs; and pulling or pushing 1500 lbs. with use of pallet jack.

This position requires close/distance/peripheral vision, depth perception and color vision.

Training

Training provided on Mackenthun's Meat Department Standards and processes including equipment operation, food safety, personal safety and harassment prevention.

Training provided on cuts and proper rotation techniques, proper procedure for cleaning and sanitizing equipment.

Meat Tumbler, Cook Tank, Injector, Patty Machine, Wrapper/Sealer, Band Saw, Hand Saw, Grinder, Meat Mixer/Grinder, Tenderizer, Baler, Compactor, Ladders, Lift Truck, Electric and Manual Pallet Jacks, Sinks, Knives, Walk-in Cooler and Freezer, Box Cutter. (Age Restrictions Apply)

Work Environment

Ability to work with and around machine noise, in hot or cold temperatures, on terrazzo floor, in a smoke-free facility. Multi-faceted and fast-paced environment.

Exposure to cleaning chemicals.
