Job description

     Position Overview

    As a customs entry writer, your primary responsibilities are to review import and export documents, ensure that all customs invoices and shipment papers are present, and prepare paperwork for clearance.

    Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities

    • Use specialized software to file entry.

    •  Sign brokerage documents,

    •  Organize customs rejections,

    •  Answer client customs questions,

    •  Complete clerical duties and monitor the processing for goods going through customs.

    •  Utilize benchmarks to procure transportations services at rates that are competitive to CJL

    •  May be required to be on call and work as part of a Saturday rotation

    •  Perform other related job duties as assigned or required. 

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
    • Competency in Microsoft Office and Google applications Analyst.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; must be able to communicate effectively via email, phone, and during face to face meetings.

    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

    • Ability to exercise judgment and discretion and function independently, within authorized limits

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Prior experience in Customs brokerage, Freight Forwarding, supply chain, or logistics operations.

    This is largely a sedentary role requiring the physical ability to:

    • Sit for prolonged periods of time at a desk while working on a computer

    • Use hands and fingers to operate a keyboard, mouse, and telephone

    • Speak and hear clearly in person, virtually, and over the phone

    • Occasionally stand, walk, reach, stoop, or lift up to 10 pounds

    This position operates in a professional office environment.  The role routinely uses standard office equipment, such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and printers.

    The work environment is typically quiet to moderate in noise level and is climate controlled.

    Location/Remote Eligibility

    This role is based out of the Des Plaines, IL office. Regular, on-site presence is required (4) days per week or as otherwise directed by the company.

    Schedule

    Standard office hours at 8:30AM – 5PM Monday through Friday.  There may be flexibility regarding start and end times. 

    Work hours may vary and may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime based on business needs.

    • Pay: Your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. We anticipate this role to pay a minimum hourly rate of $27.75 per hour, but actual base pay will depend on the successful candidate’s skills, qualifications, and experience.
