What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Customer Reliability Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Customer Reliability Engineer, you need a solid background in systems engineering, incident management, and troubleshooting, often supported by a degree in computer science or related field. Familiarity with cloud platforms (such as AWS or GCP), monitoring tools (like Datadog or Prometheus), and automation scripts is typically required. Exceptional communication, problem-solving abilities, and a customer-centric mindset are vital soft skills for this role. These skills ensure efficient incident resolution, strong client relationships, and reliable system performance under pressure.

Will AI replace SRE jobs?

AI is expected to augment the work of Customer Reliability Engineers (CREs) by automating routine tasks such as monitoring, incident detection, and data analysis. However, CREs will continue to play a critical role in designing systems, troubleshooting complex issues, and making strategic decisions that require human judgment. AI tools are seen as complementary, not a replacement, for the skills and expertise of SREs and related roles.

We’re looking for a hands-on and technically driven Field Engineering Manager to lead field engineering support, oversee technical execution, and ensure installation quality across complex infrastructure projects.
In this role, you’ll serve as a critical bridge between design, field execution, and project leadership—providing technical guidance, supporting field teams, and ensuring installations align with company standards and customer expectations. You’ll collaborate closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, and Quality/Commissioning teams to resolve technical issues, improve field processes, and drive consistency across projects.
From pre-construction planning through testing and project turnover, you’ll play a key role in ensuring teams have the tools, documentation, and support needed for successful project execution.
What You’ll Do – Guide the Field. Drive Technical Excellence.
  • Serve as the primary technical resource for field teams across multiple active projects, ensuring successful execution and installation quality.
  • Analyze project drawings, specifications, and scope documents to validate constructability, identify risks, and ensure technical accuracy.
  • Provide guidance and technical support to Field Superintendents, Foremen, and Leads throughout project execution.
  • Identify and address complex issues related to design interpretation, installation methods, and system performance.
  • Coordinate closely with Project Managers, customers, and stakeholders on technical clarifications, revisions, and design changes.
  • Participate in project planning activities including scope validation, risk identification, and execution strategy development.
  • Verify field installations align with approved drawings, specifications, customer requirements, and industry standards.
  • Support testing, system validation, commissioning activities, and project turnover processes.
  • Review and validate RFIs, submittals, design revisions, and other technical documentation.
  • Perform regular field walks and project reviews to monitor technical execution and provide real-time support.
  • Assist with creating and implementing field engineering processes, procedures, and technical standards.
  • Provide technical coaching and training to field personnel to improve consistency and execution quality.
  • Identify opportunities for process enhancements, standardization, and improved project delivery across teams.
Systems amp; Environments You’ll Support
  • Structured cabling systems, telecommunications infrastructure, and integrated low-voltage environments
  • Data centers and complex technical environments requiring high levels of reliability and coordination
  • Construction installations, design interpretation, troubleshooting, and execution planning
  • Testing, system validation, turnover activities, and operational readiness
  • Partnership across project management, field leadership, customers, and technical teams
What You Bring
  • 5+ years of experience in field engineering, construction, or technical project support within data center, telecommunications, or infrastructure environments
  • Strong knowledge of low-voltage systems, structured cabling, and critical infrastructure environments
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, schematics, and technical specifications
  • Strong understanding of industry standards including BICSI, TIA/EIA, ANSI, and related best practices
  • Experience identifying technical issues and implementing effective solutions
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Strong collaboration skills across operations, project management, customers, and field teams
  • Strong organizational and documentation capabilities
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities simultaneously
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality execution
  • Experience providing training, mentorship, and technical leadership
  • Ability to perform effectively in fast-paced, high-pressure environments
  • Basic computer proficiency including Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) and internal systems
  • Familiarity with project tracking tools such as Smartsheet or similar platforms preferred
  • Basic smartphone and tablet proficiency
  • High School Diploma/GED required; Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred
  • Industry certifications such as BICSI or manufacturer certifications preferred
  • Experience supporting low-voltage or Division 28 systems preferred
What’s in It for You?
  • Play a key role in guiding technical execution and influencing project success across multiple initiatives.
  • Partner with Project Managers, Superintendents, Quality teams, and customers to solve real-world challenges.
  • Expand your expertise across field engineering, project delivery, and mission-critical environments.
  • Every project provides opportunities to improve processes, support teams, and deliver exceptional results.
  • Comprehensive compensation package including benefits, development opportunities, and long-term growth potential.
Work Environment
This role operates within both office and active construction environments. Responsibilities may require standing, walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, and lifting up to 25 pounds. Close visual attention is required for reviewing plans, technical documentation, and field conditions.
Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the role.
