Position Summary
The Community Support Associate (CSA) provides direct, person-centered support and skill development services to clients in both residential and community settings. The CSA assists individuals in achieving their treatment goals by teaching daily living skills, promoting emotional regulation, facilitating social skills, and supporting independent living. This position functions as part of a multidisciplinary team and ensures consistent care aligned with trauma-informed and culturally competent practices.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one and group skill-building services in accordance with each client’s individualized treatment plan.
  • Support clients in developing independent living skills (e.g., budgeting, hygiene, nutrition, transportation, job readiness).
  • Reinforce coping and problem-solving strategies to manage symptoms and prevent crisis situations.
  • Facilitate daily routines, household structure, and safety expectations in the residential setting.
  • Observe, document, and report behavioral and emotional changes to the assigned clinician and treatment team.
  • Participate in team meetings, staff trainings, and treatment planning reviews.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the agency’s EHR (e.g., Therapy Notes) in compliance with Medicaid and CARF standards.
  • Transport clients to appointments, community outings, or employment interviews as needed.
  • Support family involvement and communicate effectively with guardians, clinicians, and case managers.
  • Follow all agency policies, ethical standards, and trauma-informed care principles.
  • High School Diploma or GED required, associate or bachelor’s Degree in a human services field preferred.
  • Must meet eligibility to be registered with the Kentucky Board of Alcohol and Drug Counselors as a Community Support Associate (CSA).
  • At least one year of experience working with youth or adults in a behavioral health or residential setting.
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and ability to pass background and registry checks.
  • Strong communication, organization, and crisis-intervention skills.

Work Environment

  • Requires flexibility for evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Involves working directly with clients who may exhibit challenging behaviors.
