What is a CRST driver?

CRST drivers are professional truck drivers employed by CRST International, a large transportation and logistics company in the United States. These drivers are responsible for safely transporting goods across local, regional, or national routes, often working in teams or as solo drivers. CRST provides training programs for new drivers and offers opportunities for both experienced and entry-level individuals. The job typically involves long hours on the road, adherence to safety regulations, and timely delivery of freight. CRST drivers play a crucial role in keeping supply chains running smoothly.

What does a typical week look like for a CRST driver in terms of routes and time on the road?

As a CRST driver, you can expect to spend several days at a time on the road, often covering long-haul routes across multiple states. Schedules are usually determined by freight demands and may involve team driving, where you share driving responsibilities with a partner to maximize mileage and minimize downtime. While home time varies, most drivers are home weekly or biweekly, depending on the division and route assigned. Communication and coordination with dispatchers play a key role in planning routes and ensuring timely deliveries.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a CRST driver, and why are they important?

To thrive as a CRST Driver, you need a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), a clean driving record, and thorough knowledge of DOT regulations. Familiarity with GPS navigation systems, electronic logging devices (ELDs), and basic vehicle maintenance tools is crucial. Dependability, effective communication, and strong time-management skills help drivers excel in meeting delivery schedules and maintaining safety standards. These skills and qualities ensure safe, efficient transport of goods while complying with federal regulations and providing reliable service for clients.
