About the role

As a Lead Business Control Officer (BCO) for the Global Credit Card business, you will play a critical role in strengthening Nu’s first line of defense and enabling sustainable growth of our credit card portfolio globally. You will partner closely with senior leaders across Global Credit Card, Product, Operations, and Risk to proactively identify, assess, and manage non-financial risks, ensuring that business objectives are achieved with a strong and efficient control environment.

You will be a hands-on leader, setting the bar for risk excellence while enabling innovation. You will help establish and continuously evolve the BCO model for Global Credit Card, embedding risk ownership in the first line, challenging how we work today, and helping us build best-in-class risk management practices.

You’ll be responsible for
  • Acting as the primary first-line risk partner for the Global Credit Card business, balancing risk management with business objectives and customer impact.

  • Driving a thorough understanding of end-to-end processes, risks, and controls across the Global Credit Card lifecycle, from product design and onboarding to servicing, collections, and support.

  • Designing, assessing, and continuously improving internal controls to ensure risks are identified, mitigated, and monitored effectively.

  • Leading and coordinating first-line risk management activities, including risk and control self-assessments (RCSA), loss and risk event management, issue remediation, and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Ensuring strong governance, risk, and compliance practices in alignment with internal policies, global frameworks, and applicable external regulations.

  • Supporting product and feature development by bringing a proactive risk lens to strategic decisions, business cases, and go-to-market plans.

  • Defining, tracking, and reporting meaningful risk and control metrics (KPIs/KRIs) that enable effective monitoring of the control environment and timely decision-making.

  • Building and running pragmatic, non-bureaucratic governance forums that bring together key stakeholders to discuss risks, controls, incidents, and remediation plans.

  • Preparing and presenting clear, concise risk reports and updates to senior leadership and relevant governance bodies.

  • Partnering with second and third lines of defense to ensure alignment, transparency, and effective challenge, while maintaining strong ownership of risks in the first line.

  • Contributing to the ongoing evolution of the BCO framework at Nu, sharing best practices, proposing improvements, and helping shape how we operate as a global first-line risk team.

We are looking for a person who has
  • Proven experience working with credit card products and businesses, preferably in a global or multi-market environment.

  • Solid experience in non-financial risk management, operational risk, or related risk disciplines within financial services or fintech.

  • Strong understanding of risk and control frameworks, governance, and regulatory expectations for consumer credit products.

  • Experience designing, assessing, and improving processes and internal controls, including documentation and process mapping.

  • Proven ability to influence and build strong relationships with stakeholders at different levels of the organization, including senior leaders.

  • A hands-on, ownership-driven mindset, with the ability to dive deep into details while keeping a strategic view of risks and priorities.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex issues into clear actions and decisions.

  • Excellent communication skills in English, with the ability to convey risk topics in a clear, concise, and structured way.

  • Independence, proactivity, and a strong desire to challenge the status quo and improve how we work.

Nice to have
  • Experience in first-line risk roles directly embedded in business or product teams.

  • Prior exposure to SOX or similar internal control over financial reporting frameworks.

  • Experience working with teams across different countries and cultures.

  • Knowledge of data, analytics, or tooling that can help automate and enhance risk and control monitoring.
