Job description

KMBC 9, Kansas City's News Leader and ABC affiliate, is seeking a talented Creative Services Writer Producer to develop high-impact promotional, marketing, and branded content across broadcast, digital, social, and streaming platforms. In this role, you will write, shoot, edit, and design station image campaigns, daily news promos, vertical videos, and other multiplatform content that strengthens the KMBC 9 brand. You will collaborate across departments, contribute innovative ideas, and support station campaigns, community initiatives, and marketing projects from concept through delivery. This position reports to the Creative Services Director. If you are a motivated visual storyteller with strong production skills and a passion for creative excellence, this could be the ideal opportunity for you.

Responsibilities

  • Produce, write, shoot, and edit high-impact promotional, marketing, branded, and image content for broadcast, digital, social, and streaming platforms.
  • Lead all aspects of field and studio production, including cinematography, lighting, audio capture, directing, and creative execution.
  • Craft compelling edits using strong storytelling, pacing, sound design, motion graphics, titles, and visual effects.
  • Collaborate with Creative Services leadership, newsroom personnel, talent, station partners, and other departments to develop and execute creative concepts.
  • Produce and support community outreach initiatives, including event planning and multiplatform promotion.
  • Manage projects from concept through final delivery with exceptional organization, attention to detail, and hands-on oversight of editing and finishing.
  • Troubleshoot production and post-production challenges efficiently in fast-paced environments.
  • Contribute innovative ideas and actively participate in cross-departmental brainstorms to continually raise the station's creative standards.

Requirements

  • 3+ years experience in Television writing or producing
  • Experience with Adobe applications such as After Effects, Premiere Pro, and Photoshop required
  • Working knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite
  • Writing skills; can write compelling, conversational copy
  • Knowledge of production process including linear and non-linear editing
  • Proficient in videography and lighting
  • Image and promotion writing skills
  • Work well under extreme deadlines
  • Must be a team player and creative
  • Related military experience will be considered
  • In-person attendance is required
