What is a creative executive?

Creative Executives are professionals in the entertainment or advertising industries responsible for developing, evaluating, and managing creative projects such as films, television shows, or marketing campaigns. They work closely with writers, directors, producers, and other creatives to oversee the development process from concept to execution. Their main role is to identify promising ideas, guide creative teams, and ensure that projects align with the company’s vision and goals. Creative Executives often review scripts, provide feedback, and help shape the overall creative direction of a project.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a creative executive?

To thrive as a Creative Executive, you need a strong background in creative development, project management, and a relevant degree in film, media, or a related field. Familiarity with script analysis software, content management systems, and industry-standard tools like Final Draft and Adobe Creative Suite is common. Exceptional communication, leadership, and negotiation skills are critical for collaborating with diverse teams and talent. These competencies ensure effective project execution and the ability to deliver compelling content that aligns with business objectives.

How does a creative executive typically collaborate with other departments in a media company?

A Creative Executive regularly works cross-functionally, partnering with departments such as development, production, marketing, and legal. They act as a bridge between creative talent and business teams, ensuring that content aligns with the company's vision while also meeting project requirements. This collaboration often involves attending pitch meetings, reviewing scripts, coordinating with production teams, and providing creative feedback. Strong communication and negotiation skills are essential, as the Creative Executive must balance creative aspirations with logistical and budgetary constraints.

Job description

Job Description:
Executive Programs & Events Lead
Collaborate with Innovative 3Mers Around the World
Choosing where to start and grow your career has a major impact on your professional and personal life, so it's equally important you know that the company that you choose to work at, and its leaders, will support and guide you. With a wide variety of people, global locations, technologies and products, 3M is a place where you can collaborate with other curious, creative 3Mers.
This position provides an opportunity to transition from other private, public, government or military experience to a 3M career.
The Impact You'll Make in this Role
As the Executive Programs & Events Lead for the Transportation & Electronics Business Group (TEBG), you will own the global executive engagement program that turns face-to-face moments into pipeline, relationships, and brand preference. Sitting within the Global Marketing Center, you will develop and own signature engagement programs - including customer advisory boards, executive roundtables, leadership engagement events, and Customer Innovation Tours.
You will design programs and experiences that build trusted, lasting relationships between 3M and senior customer and partner leaders, spark dialogue on strategic industry topics, and systematically capture voice of the customer. Working in close partnership with Business Leaders, Vertical Marketing, Account-Based Marketing, Integrated Marketing, and Sales, you will ensure every program delivers measurable business impact.
In this role, you will make an impact by:
  • Owning the global TEBG executive engagement program - the strategy, portfolio, and calendar of customer advisory boards (business and technical), executive roundtables, leadership engagement events, and Customer Innovation Tour Program that deepen relationships with senior decision-makers across cloud, automotive, aerospace, electronics, and industrial customers.
  • Designing high-trust executive experiences that spark strategic dialogue between 3M and customer and partner leaders, position 3M as a thought partner on industry trends, and create the conditions for long-term, multi-year opportunities.
  • Building a programmatic voice-of-customer capability - capturing, synthesizing, and routing executive and customer insights from advisory boards and engagements back to Business, Vertical, Portfolio, and Innovation leaders to shape strategy, roadmap, and go-to-market decisions.
  • Curating C-suite journeys across the account lifecycle in partnership with Vertical Marketing, Account-Based Marketing, and Sales - from targeted invitations and personalized pre-engagement through on-site executive moments and structured follow-up that advances strategic accounts.
  • Elevating the executive presence at priority events - partnering with Vertical Marketing to define headline moments and executive experiences, so 3M shows up consistently and credibly with senior audiences.
  • Defining the executive-engagement measurement framework - setting KPIs at the brief stage (executives engaged, new decision-maker relationships, influenced pipeline, meetings held, MROI) and standardizing outcome reporting

Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum):
  • Bachelor's degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) in Marketing, Business, Communications, or Hospitality/Event Management.
  • Seven (7) years of combined experience in B2B event marketing, experiential/field marketing, executive engagement, or integrated marketing, including experience leading global or large-scale events.

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
  • Experience owning an end-to-end event portfolio (trade shows, conferences, proprietary customer events, and executive experiences) with accountability for pipeline and ROI, not just execution.
  • Experience designing and running executive engagement programs such as customer advisory boards, C-suite roundtables, or analyst-relations moments.
  • Working knowledge of account-based marketing and how to integrate events into ABM plays for strategic accounts.
  • Experience in B2B technology, electronics, automotive, aerospace, industrial, or adjacent technical markets.
  • Proven vendor and agency management, budget governance, and experience consolidating spending across a fragmented event footprint.
  • Familiarity with event and marketing technology (e.g., iCapture, Cvent, Eloqua, Salesforce/SFDC, Power BI) and event ROI/measurement frameworks.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder-influence skills in a global, matrixed organization.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, executive presence, and comfort engaging senior customer and internal stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple high-visibility programs simultaneously with strong attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools including Excel and PowerPoint.

Work location:
  • This role follows an on-site working model, requiring the employee to work at least four days a week at the 3M Center in Maplewood, MN.

Travel: May include up to 30% domestic and international travel.
Relocation: May be authorized

Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status).
