CMS ATHLETICS
The Joint CMS Athletics, Physical Education, and Recreation Program is comprised of student-athletes from Claremont McKenna, Harvey Mudd, and Scripps Colleges and offers a comprehensive program of regular physical education, intramural, recreational, club and varsity sports. CMS varsity teams compete in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), as a member of NCAA Division III. The Program is comprised of 21 varsity sports (10 men's, 11 women's) and supports a student population of over 3,200 and a student-athlete population of approximately 530.
BASIC FUNCTION:
This position is responsible for a variety of duties within the Athletic Communications office. The Athletic Communications Assistant will support the communications and media needs of CMS Athletics' 21 sports programs and the Athletic department as a whole.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Reporting to the Director of Athletic Communications, the Athletic Communications Assistant performs the following essential duties and responsibilities:
  • Assist the Director of Athletic Communications with coverage of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps' 21 varsity sports, with an emphasis on creative content.
  • Direct and oversee students at home and select away and championship contests.
  • Develop strategies and produce creative content for CMS Athletics' social media.
  • Manage and create content for CMSAthletics.com.
  • Assist with live streaming and other broadcast media.
  • Collect and maintain statistics.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletic Communications.

Regular attendance is considered an essential job function; the inability to meet attendance requirements may preclude the employee from retaining employment.
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS & SKILLS:
EDUCATION: A bachelor's degree in Sports Management, Marketing, Communications, or a related field, or any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is required.
EXPERIENCE: Previous experience working in a collegiate Sports Information office or related field is preferred. Experience with Adobe Photoshop, graphic design, video editing, photography/videography, social media, and working under pressure is preferred. Experience with website management, broadcasting, games management, and writing is preferred.
LICENCES: A valid driver's license and the ability to be insured under the College's authorized driver's policy are required to drive college-owned vehicles.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: The individual must possess knowledge, skills, and ability to be able to successfully perform the essential functions of the position, or be able to explain or demonstrate how the essential functions will be performed, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some combination of knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Demonstrate effective, accurate, and clear communication with excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, reading, and leadership skills. Follow all written and verbal instructions, asking questions as needed for clarification of assignments.
  • Operate computers proficiently with basic Microsoft Office software (such as Word, Excel, and Outlook) and associated professional software (such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Canva, Adobe Premiere Pro, and Instagram).
  • Prioritize and perform multiple projects, meet deadlines, respond to others promptly, and work both independently and as a collaborative member of the Athletics Department with a high standard of integrity and ethics.
  • Use strong organizational and time management skills to complete work with accuracy and a keen attention to detail.

OTHER:
REQIRED HOURS: The regular hours for this full-time position are between 36-40 hours per week, up to 6 days per week, on a variable schedule based on department needs. Holiday, weekend, and evening work hours will be required. Travel may be required. Regular hours may vary due to the needs of the Athletics Department. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule.
