Find your calling at Mercy!A Chaplain Resident is enrolled in a Mercy Hospital Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) Program, designed for persons wanting to certify as professional chaplains or for persons who are seeking advanced training in spiritual care. Through the intense practice of ministry and reflection with peers, chaplain-mentors, preceptors and Certified Educator(s), CPE residents develop and practice skills for spiritual care in traditional, non-traditional, and institutional settings. CPE Residents' ministry includes patients, families, hospital personnel and larger community. The CPE program is accredited by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE, Inc). ACPE is nationally recognized as an accrediting agency in the field of clinical pastoral education by the U.S. Secretary of Education through the U.S. Department of Education.
Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.Position Details:Graduate theological degree or equivalent training that would lead to board certification as a chaplain in process or completed graduate degree in a related field.Enrollment in Mercy Hospital Springfield's Clinical Pastoral Education Residency Program which includes but is not limited to: a. Completed CPE application b. Admission interview with qualified interviewer(s) to determine readiness for CPE c. Acceptance by CPE center accredited for appropriate program Experience:Experience in a pastoral or ministry setting. Other Skills and Knowledge:Demonstrated ability and potential for continued growth in: a. Mercy culture b. Reflection on experience c. Listening d. Self-disclosure e. Ethics and Values, including a theological framework f. Compassion regardless of cultural, religious, age or other differences g. Sense of Service h. Relationality, including ability to work through and within a system. Computer skills to include, but not limited to a. General computer competence, e.g. general commands, drop-down menus, navigating a computer screen and between screens b. Ease of use with Microsoft Word c. Ease of use with email d. Ability to enter data into a pre-existing database e. Ability to use a search engine to find appropriate information. Equipment used: fax, copier, pager, phone system. Preferred QualificationsEducation:Master of Divinity and/or accepted equivalency by APC Experience:Successful prior completion of one unit of CPE or its equivalent preferredWhy Mercy?
