To thrive as an On Call CPE Chaplain, you generally need a background in theology or divinity, completion of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) units, and often endorsement from a faith group. Familiarity with hospital systems, electronic charting, and spiritual care assessment tools is typically required. What are some typical challenges an On Call CPE Chaplain may encounter during overnight or weekend shifts?

On Call CPE Chaplains often face unique challenges such as responding to urgent pastoral care needs at any hour, managing multiple requests from patients, families, and staff, and providing spiritual support in emotionally charged situations like trauma or end-of-life care. Working alone or with limited support during off-hours can require quick decision-making and resilience. Balancing self-care with the unpredictable demands of the role is also essential to maintain effectiveness and well-being.

What is an On Call CPE Chaplain?

On Call CPE Chaplains offer support during emergencies, crises, or whenever pastoral care is needed, often working nights, weekends, or holidays. Their role is to be present, provide comfort, and assist with spiritual or religious needs as they arise.
