Job description

Role Overview
Dodge & Cox is launching a rotational program for exceptional individuals who want to shape how a leading active asset manager operates.
Participants will rotate through various investment and non-investment functions as embedded associates with real ownership of projects and direct mentorship from department heads and senior firm leadership.
We are bringing in a small cohort of high-potential individuals who are analytically sharp, intellectually curious, and energized by the challenge of modernizing complex operations in a highly regulated industry. Associates will work on problems with real business consequences: mapping and redesigning manual processes, building data-driven business cases, evaluating and strategically applying AI and automation tools to improve how the firm operates.
Successful associates will have a path to transition into a permanent role aligned with the firm's evolving needs and the individual's skills and interests.
Key Responsibilities
Across each rotation, you will take ownership of meaningful, often cross-functional problems that may not have an obvious owner or a clear path forward. Specifically, you will:
  • Map and diagnose business processes end-to-end to identify bottlenecks, manual hand-offs, redundancies, and opportunities for automation, redesign, or the strategic application of AI
  • Translate findings into clear recommendations for senior stakeholders to assess opportunities for improvements and technology-enabled solutions
  • Partner with technology, operations, and business teams to design and pilot solutions, and help drive initiatives from proof of concept through implementation and adoption
  • Build business fluency across the firm: understand each department's goals, workflows, controls, and key metrics, and carry those insights forward across rotations
  • Identify patterns across teams, share insights, and develop reusable frameworks where workflows or solutions can be standardized or scaled firm-wide

What Success Looks Like
  • For each rotation, deliver at least one meaningful, implemented improvement that the business can maintain and improve - moving from diagnosis through solution design, build, and adoption
  • Demonstrate sound judgment navigating ambiguity, competing priorities, and sensitive information
  • Communicate clearly and credibly across both technical and non-technical audiences, including senior leadership
  • Build an increasingly integrated view of how Dodge & Cox operates - developing an understanding of interrelationships and interdependencies across teams and contributing to a shared body of knowledge about where and how the firm can optimize its processes and operations

Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor's degree with an excellent academic record in AI, Math, Economics, Data or Computer Science, or a similar analytically rigorous background
  • Demonstrated ability to break down complex, ambiguous problems and develop structured, actionable recommendations
  • Analytical rigor and comfort working with data to support decision-making - whether through quantitative tools, structured frameworks, or both
  • Intellectual curiosity, high standard of excellence, and demonstrated passion for improving processing and increasing efficiency
  • Clear, concise communicator: equally effective engaging technical colleagues and non-technical senior stakeholders
  • Strong technical fluency in data analysis tools (e.g., Python, SQL, Excel) and comfort applying these skills in a business context

Preferred
  • Up to 5 years of professional experience in financial services, technology, management consulting or data analytics, or an undergraduate experience that demonstrates exceptional potential
  • Working knowledge of cloud software (e.g., Snowflake, Azure) is a plus but not required
  • Experience with process redesign, automation, or AI/ML tools in applied settings
  • One-year master's programs in AI, Data Science, Business Analytics, or related fields are strongly encouraged to apply

Requirements:
  • Dodge & Cox has a 4/1 hybrid work model, and all Dodge & Cox employees are required to be in their assigned office as noted in the job posting Monday - Thursday each week, with the option to work remotely on Friday.

The salary range for this position is $95k - $160k.
The listed pay scale denotes only the pay range of the base salary and does not include discretionary bonus compensation, which may make up an important portion of the total remuneration. Dodge & Cox encourages applicants to consider the value of the many competitive benefits it offers, including coverage of 100% of all healthcare premiums for employees and their families and fully funding a retirement plan at 25% of the total compensation to the IRS limit. Dodge & Cox also provides additional benefits such as commuter, health & wellness, backup care, matching gift, employee assistance, and life and disability insurance. The listed pay scale reflects the base salary Dodge & Cox reasonably expects to pay for this position and is not a reflection of the highest and lowest base salary of any current Dodge & Cox employee.
