Louisiana State University (LSU) in Baton Rouge invites applications and nominations for a full-time Instructor of Industrial Engineering in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (MIE).


LSU is the Flagship University of the State of Louisiana, with its main campus located in the vibrant city of Baton Rouge, offering many cultural and recreational opportunities and high-quality affordable housing. The MIE Department is the largest one in the College of Engineering with B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degree programs in both Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Engineering.


Appointment will be made at the Instructor level, though applicants with exceptional qualifications and experience may be considered at higher Instructor ranks.


Job Summary:

Contribute to education mission of the Department. Responsibilities include teaching BSIE Program laboratory and lecture courses in order to meet the demands of the IE enrollment while maintaining pedagogically appropriate class sizes.


Job Description:

90% Teach BSIE Program lecture and laboratory courses, including supervision and training of teaching assistants and provide education-related service as assigned by supervisor. Advise students and senior design projects.

10% Supervision and management of IE UG laboratories, including upgrades, as assigned by supervisor, and advising assigned student cohort once every semester.


Minimum Qualifications:

Master's in Industrial or Systems or Mechanical engineering or equivalent - a Bachelor's degree with 10 years of industry experience is a substitute for the Master's degree; Minimum 5 years of experience; Experience in industrial engineering education and/or engineering practice.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ph.D. in engineering discipline.

Specific Experience: Teaching of core BSIE courses and engineering laboratories. Experience in one or more of these subjects: probability and statistics, information technology as related to IE (e.g. business analytics, systems integration, information system design, enterprise resources planning and enterprise systems) and supply chain engineering in addition to any other IE core subjects.

Very good management and oral and written communications skills.

Preferred Certifications:

A bachelors degree and/or certificates in industrial and/or systems and/or aerospace and/or nuclear and/or mechanical engineering.
