Primary Purpose:
Perform professional psychological work under supervision in assessment, behavior intervention, and counseling for students with disabilities. Assess the psychological and psycho-educational needs of students referred to special education services. This is a position for one school year only.
Qualifications/Skills:
Education/Certification:
  • Completion of coursework and practicum experience that allows for the provision of psychological services in the school setting with supervision of a licensed professional.
  • Enrolled in a regionally accredited institution of higher learning and a formal course of supervised study that allows for participation in a year long, 1200+ hour internship experience.

Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Knowledge of procedures for assessing achievement and intellectual, emotional and behavioral functioning for educational purposes.
  • Knowledge of prevention and intervention strategies, including behavior interventions.
  • Knowledge of psycho-social development.
  • Consultation skills for conferencing with teachers, parents and students.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred.

Major Duties and
Responsibilities:
Assessment:
  • Complete Full and Individual Evaluations and other evaluation reports in accordance with federal and state regulations and district practices.
  • Consult with relevant staff and parents concerning the educational needs of students and interpretation of assessment data.

Counseling:
  • Conduct group and/or individual counseling sessions for students according to their IEP or for crisis intervention.

Consultation:
  • Consult with school staff regarding implementation of behavior intervention plans and strategies for managing disruptive behavior.
  • Provide staff development training to assist school personnel with identification and understanding of students with emotional, social, and behavioral disturbances.
  • Conduct or participate in the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee to assist with appropriate placement and development of the Individual Education Plans (IEP) for students according to district procedures.
  • Consult with mental health providers, physicians, and community agencies concerning intellectual, emotional, and behavioral functioning of students as appropriate.

Program Management:
  • Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required, including case records, test results, statistical data, and test inventories
  • Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy in the areas of psychological services, assessment, placement, and planning for special education services
  • Comply with all district and local campus routines and regulations
  • Participate in professional development activities to improve skills related to job assignment

  • Maintain positive and effective relationships with supervisors and colleagues.
