Job description

Title: Senior Billing Analyst (Contract)
Location: Alexandria, VA (Hybrid - 3 days onsite / 2 days remote)
Duration: Approximately 3 months (temp-to-perm possible)
Target Pay Range: $35-$50/hour

Overview

A well-established organization is seeking a Senior Billing Analyst to support government contract billing and related accounts receivable functions. This role is responsible for preparing, monitoring, and reporting billing activity, supporting invoicing and collections, and partnering across internal teams to resolve billing and contract closeout issues.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and issue accurate, timely, and supportable customer invoices across contract types (e.g., CPFF, T&M, FFP) in accordance with applicable regulations and contract terms.
  • Manage the collection cycle, follow up on unpaid invoices, and resolve customer billing questions.
  • Support accounting system understanding and participate in improvements to billing methods, controls, and procedures.
  • Execute contract closeout processes, including reconciliations and cross-functional coordination to ensure contract data is accurate and complete.
  • Review and create interim/final invoices and rate variance invoice reversals, manually or using Costpoint, and submit through relevant agency portals.
  • Evaluate contracts for quick closeouts; research and resolve short-paid invoices; assist with receivables audit responses and special projects.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree (preferably Accounting or related field with accounting coursework).
  • 6+ years of experience in accounting, finance, or government contracting.
  • Costpoint and Cognos experience (required).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience with sponsor billing portals such as WAWF, IPP, Pay.gov (and similar).
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, financial policies/procedures, and government regulations relevant to billing.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills; strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize independently.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check is required.
