Job description

Volunteers of America Ohio & Indiana seeks energetic team member to join our team. VOAOHIN is a multi-dimensional agency helping people rebuild and reclaim their lives. The organization has numerous facilities providing a variety of services across Ohio and Indiana. The specific job location of this listing is the Hope Hall Residential Reentry Center in Evansville, Indiana.
The Corrections Officer, position works in the Residential Reentry Program impact area. This is an excellent entry level position for anyone interested in developing a career in law-enforcement or corrections. As a Corrections Officer, you will be part of a multi-disciplinary team working to provide a safe, secure, humane environment for individuals finishing prison sentences in the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) who are releasing to this area. Corrections Officer staff are a vital component of this effort. Quality Corrections Officer staff are an important element of the BOP's, and VOAOHIN's efforts to provide a constructive, positive, yet controlled pre-release opportunity for individuals returning to society.
Your duties will include a variety of tasks. You will help maintain physical security of the program by conducting pat searches of individuals as well as building and vehicle searches. You will obtain resident urine and breath samples to discourage substance abuse. You will transport residents as needed. Staff also perform routine random inspections of the building and facility grounds to ensure security as well as orderly and safe operations. You will enforce rules and regulations and will document violations of rules as required. You will be expected to write incident reports and disciplinary reports. You will help to provide GPS/telephone-based monitoring of residents who have moved to home confinement. As needed, you may assist with community verification of residences and employment locations. You will interact on a daily basis, in a variety of circumstances, with individuals releasing from maximum, medium, and minimum-security prisons. You will be expected to behave in a mature, professional manner during all these interactions.
Individuals with experience as security officer, correctional officer, or reentry environment are preferred. This is also a great entry level position for those looking for experience in the field of security and corrections.
Applicants MUST have a High School diploma or GED. All applicants will undergo an NCIC and ADP background investigation prior to employment. First Aid & CPR certification is required and must be maintained. VOAOHIN will provide certification if not already obtained.
This is a progressive hourly scale position starting at $17.75/hour. Shift differential available for 2nd-3rd shift.
Years of Service Awards will be awarded at the following milestones:
• 6 Months of Service - $250
• 1 Year of Service - $500
• 5, 15, 25 Years of Service - $1000
• At 10, 20, 30 Years of Service, full time employees are offered a 1-month sabbatical
• At 10, 20, 30 Years of Service, part time employees are offered $1000
Part time permanent employees are eligible for the bonus award payout at indicated service intervals; part time permanent employees are not eligible for sabbaticals.
