What is corporate social responsibility?

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is a business model focused on helping a business become and remain socially accountable. This includes studying the impact of the company's activities on topics like environmental sustainability, economic influence, and social norms. The goal of CSR is to ensure that the company supports the world around it rather than having a negative impact. Jobs in this field frequently ask you to analyze information, advise the company's leadership on the best course of action, and consider the global impact of regional plans. Many companies use the ISO 26000 standards from the International Organization for Standardization to measure their adherence to CSR's expectations.

How does a corporate social responsibility (CSR) professional typically collaborate with other departments within a company?

CSR professionals work closely with a variety of departments, such as marketing, human resources, legal, and operations, to align the company's social initiatives with its overall business strategy. They often coordinate with marketing teams to communicate CSR efforts, partner with HR to organize employee volunteer programs, and consult with legal to ensure compliance with regulations. Effective collaboration across these teams is crucial for implementing impactful and sustainable CSR initiatives that reflect the company's values and goals.
