What is a corporate coach?

A Corporate Coach is a professional who works with employees, teams, or executives within organizations to improve performance, develop leadership skills, and achieve business goals. They use coaching techniques to help clients identify strengths, overcome challenges, and create actionable plans for growth. Corporate coaches can work internally within a company or be hired as external consultants, and they often focus on areas such as communication, team dynamics, and organizational change.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a corporate coach, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Corporate Coach, you need expertise in leadership development, performance management, and a relevant background in business or psychology, often supported by coaching certifications like ICF or EMCC. Familiarity with assessment tools such as 360-degree feedback systems, psychometric testing, and learning management platforms is typically required. Exceptional listening, emotional intelligence, and the ability to motivate and build trust are crucial soft skills in this role. These skills enable coaches to effectively guide professionals, foster organizational growth, and drive lasting behavioral change.

How does a corporate coach typically work with organizational leadership teams to drive change?

A Corporate Coach often partners with leadership teams through workshops, one-on-one sessions, and group coaching to identify challenges, set strategic goals, and improve management effectiveness. This role frequently involves facilitating communication, providing feedback, and guiding leaders through change management processes. The coach acts as a neutral facilitator, helping teams align on vision and values while building trust and accountability. Close collaboration with HR and senior executives is common to ensure coaching initiatives support broader organizational objectives.

Job description

Leland is building the home for ambition in the age of AI. We connect people with the experts, programs, and communities they need to land the job, get into the school, or upskill for a world being rewritten by AI. We help businesses become AI-native through training, hiring, and infrastructure. Since our founding in 2021, we've helped tens of thousands of people reach their most ambitious goals and raised $19M from world-class investors. Ambition is sacred to us, and we've built a product that takes that seriously.
We're seeking an experienced Corporate Development Coach to work with clients looking to grow within their current corporate roles. This role includes teaching core skills in mergers & acquisitions, due diligence, and business valuation, as well as helping clients build strong financial analysis and strategic planning abilities. Coaches also guide clients on market research, competitive analysis, and negotiation skills to support deal-making and growth strategy. On the career side, coaches offer resume review, LinkedIn review, and cover letter guidance, plus interview prep, networking strategy, salary negotiation, and promotion strategy tailored to corporate development roles, along with broader skill building. Ideal candidates have hands-on experience in corporate development, investment banking, or strategy (as a corporate development professional, banker, or industry professional), a strong track record of evaluating and executing deals, and a clear, structured approach to coaching clients through both technical and career growth. Coaches set their own hours and rates, host sessions virtually, and partner with our team to deliver a high-quality, supportive experience for every client.
Why Leland?
  • The chance to join a world-class team helping people achieve their career and educational dreams
  • Work in a collaborative, high-energy environment where your contributions have a direct impact
  • Operate in a fast-paced, AI-native environment
  • We don't hire people who merely want to work for a great company; we hire people who want to make a great company

Leland is an equal opportunity employer. We encourage candidates of all backgrounds and demographics to apply.
