Acento Real Estate Partners, headquartered in the Washington, DC metro area, is a leading property operations and investment management company, focused on delivering exceptional service to multifamily communities in Hispanic markets and Workforce Housing. Since 2002, we’ve earned a reputation as innovative, people-first experts in acquiring, redeveloping, and managing residential assets.

As Assistant Corporate Controller, you support the VP of Accounting in the financial stewardship of Acento's corporate accounting function — helping manage Accounts Payable, Payroll, Treasury, and Corporate Financial Reporting while partnering with Asset Management, HR, and Tax to ensure accurate reporting, strong controls, sound cash management, and operational excellence.

This role goes beyond producing financial statements — you’ll help build a high-performing accounting team, identify risks and opportunities, and strengthen financial controls and processes across the organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the VP of Accounting in leading the monthly, quarterly, and annual close for the corporate entity and consolidated financial statements, ensuring GAAP compliance
  • Help deliver accurate, timely reporting to executive leadership and lenders; assist with the general ledger, consolidations, budgeting, and forecasting
Accounts Payable
  • Assist in overseeing invoice processing, coding, approvals, and vendor payments, with strong AP controls and segregation of duties
  • Drive AP automation and efficiency improvements and support month-end close, accruals, and reconciliations
Payroll
  • Assist in overseeing accurate, compliant payroll processing across a multi-state, hourly/salaried workforce
  • Partner with HR on benefits administration and new hire/termination processing; support payroll accounting and reconciliations
Treasury & Cash Management
  • Support the VP of Accounting in overseeing cash management, banking relationships, liquidity forecasting, and covenant compliance
  • Assist with disbursement/funding processes and support debt administration and lender coordination
Internal Controls & Leadership
  • Help maintain strong accounting controls and governance across AP, Payroll, and Treasury; support annual audit and tax reporting
  • Assist in leading, coaching, and developing the AP, Payroll, and Treasury teams, fostering ownership and continuous improvement
  • Partner with the VP of Accounting, Asset Management, HR, and Tax, providing proactive insights and early risk escalation
What you will bring along
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA or CPA candidate preferred
  • 4–7+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally including exposure to AP, payroll, or treasury
  • Real estate industry and multi-entity consolidation experience preferred
  • Strong GAAP knowledge, Excel skills, and attention to detail; comfortable in a fast-paced, multi-entity environment
We Take Care of Our People – we offer competitive salary & employee benefits
  • Base salary: $110,000–$135,000, commensurate with experience, plus performance-based incentive bonus
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance with Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) partially paid by employer
  • Employer paid short & long-term disability + life insurance
  • 18 days Paid Time Off, 11.5 days Paid Holidays, and Employee Assistance Plan (EAP)
