Job description

Job Title: Mainframe Cybersecurity Software EngineerDuration : 6 Months CTH

Work Location - ON SITE:

5465 Legacy Dr, Plano, TX 75024

Job Description:

Client is looking for a seasoned Cybersecurity Software Engineer with a hacker s curiosity and a defender s discipline, balancing bulletproof system reliability with a smooth user experience.

This role is in the Mainframe DevOps value stream, as a software engineer for one of our flagship products, Gen (formerly known as COOL:Gen or CA Gen). Gen is a low-code, model-driven development environment for enterprise applications. Gen enables global enterprises to generate and deploy applications in a single, integrated development environment for multiple platforms.

The Opportunity

As a Mainframe Cybersecurity Software Engineer (ICB 5), you will take ownership of the security posture, core architecture, and ongoing evolution of Gen (formerly known as COOL: Gen or CA Gen). This is a high-impact, visible role where you will apply your advanced cybersecurity expertise to influence all levels of product delivery. You will guide architectural design, spearhead secure coding standards, and act as a technical mentor to other engineers. This is a hands-on technical role: you will write code, lead code reviews, and influence testing strategy. Concurrently, you will serve as a subject matter expert and thought leader championing security best practices in partnership with product management and customers.

Who You Are

You are a self-motivated team player who likes diving into complex, legacy environments to modernize them against ever-changing security standards. You collaborate easily with others, with an Agile mindset that makes communicating, responding to change, and continuous improvement a natural way of working for you. You are comfortable working on and off the mainframe. Your natural curiosity keeps you well informed of the latest technologies, and deepens your knowledge of legacy systems that are the foundation of global enterprise.

What You ll Do

  • Research, develop, and implement high-quality software solutions to maintain and enhance Gen's core product capabilities.
  • Troubleshoot and fix customer cases that have been escalated to engineering.
  • Drive technical design to ensure robust security standards, while retaining a simple user experience.
  • Champion engineering excellence across the Mainframe Software Division, particularly for the DevOps value stream.
  • Act as a public-facing subject matter expert by authoring technical blogs, webinars, and documentation on security best practices.
  • Offer thought leadership directly to enterprise customers, helping them navigate complex security standards and advising them on Gen modernization strategies.

What You Need

  • Minimum of 12 years of experience in software development.
  • BA/BS in Computer Science or equivalent engineering degree.
  • Deep expertise and hands-on coding experience in at least two of the following: IBM Assembler, COBOL, PL/I, C, C++, Java, .NET.
  • Experience with mainframe(z/OS) and distributed environments (Windows, Unix, Linux) and related security best practices.
  • Understanding of complex microservices, APIs, databases, and Client-Server communication.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing cybersecurity principles (e.g., cryptography, secure coding practices, access controls) and using industry-standard products like RACF, ACF2, Top Secret, and TLS.
  • Strong command of object-oriented programming (OOP) principles and interlanguage communications (ILC) across hybrid environments.

Additional skills that will benefit your efforts

  • Expertise in deep-dive debugging, including reading system dumps, utilizing advanced diagnostic tools, and executing performance tuning.
  • Experience executing penetration testing, including triage and remediation.
  • Thorough understanding of z/OS system components and sub-systems, including z/OS Language Environment (LE), ISPF, CICS, IMS, WebSphere Liberty, and DB2.
  • Experience working with enterprise middleware and network protocols, such as ECI, TCP/IP or IBM MQ.
  • Knowledge and related product expertise in any of the following: Python, Typescript, Docker, Kubernetes, Spring Boot, Jakarta, Oracle, Db2, MS SQL Server, ODBC, JDBC, ADO.NET, COM, Windows MFC, Jenkins, Ansible
  • Working knowledge of Cloud Native Architectures, Containers, .NET, TCP/IP, Tuxedo, WebSphere, Liberty, WebLogic, JBoss (WildFly), InstallAnywhere, Eclipse
  • Experience developing with or maintaining Gen (formerly known as COOL:Gen or CA Gen).
