With a name that pays tribute to our founder’s grandfather, each PJ Whelihan’s has a somewhat unique feel, but all are neighborhood establishments that deliver a great guest experience. Inside you’ll find an impressive TV package that helps make PJ’s the best place to catch all the sports action around a busy bar with a huge selection of beer on tap, including PJW Copper Lager, the signature house beer brewed by Victory Brewing Company. PJs famous wings are a community tradition that has built loyal customers and true fans.
Reports to: General Manager/ FOH Manager

  • Someone who takes pride in their appearance and the way they present themselves to others is a must when you’re running the show with PJWRG! We’re looking for someone who puts their best foot forward every single day.
  • Staying “calm, cool, and collected”. Your composure and ability to handle pressure in a high-volume atmosphere is something that will keep the guests coming back time and time again.
  • Our ideal employee is a leader in every sense. You MUST be responsible and confident in your position, its requirements and how you intend to carry out your duties!
Host Responsibilities:
  • Warmly and graciously greet all guests upon arrival.
  • When possible, open the front door for guests entering and leaving the restaurant.
  • When immediate seating is limited, record guest names and number of people in the party.
  • Provide guests with estimated waiting times.
  • Call out name and number of party when tables become available.
  • Seat guests based on guest preferences whenever possible and consider the balancing of customer flow in the service stations.
  • Upon seating, offer guests a menu and inform them of their server’s name. Inspect the table for proper presentation and completeness.
  • Relay messages to servers and bussers as needed.
  • Thank guests as they leave and invite them to return.
  • Maintain a clean and organized hostess station.
  • Ensure the front of restaurant (entrance hallway / doors) are clear of trash, swept and windows are clean.
  • Check bathrooms for cleanliness and paper supplies every two hours during the day and every hour from 5:00 pm – close.
  • Utilize POS system to ensure accurate sales data and Hot Schedules application for scheduling and communication amongst the restaurant team.
  • Read all messages sent from Management via Hot Schedules before coming in for each shift. Important information will be communicated via Hot Schedules that must be followed amp; implemented for your next shift.
Host Qualifications:
  • No previous restaurant experience required
  • A positive, can-do attitude and the ability to warmly welcome our guests.
  • Work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 5 hours).
