HHM Talent is assisting a client who is searching for a Controller in Hammond, LA.


Position Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Automotive Controller to oversee accounting operations across multiple dealership locations. This individual will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, managing weekly payroll, strengthening internal controls, and ensuring each store follows consistent accounting processes.

They are open to considering a strong automotive Office Manager, Accounting Manager, or Assistant Controller who is ready to advance into a Controller position.


Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily accounting operations for multiple dealership locations
  • Manage and process weekly payroll accurately and on time
  • Lead the month-end closing process and prepare dealership financial statements
  • Maintain the general ledger and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and schedules
  • Monitor cash flow, bank activity, floorplan accounts, and vehicle inventory
  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, deal posting, billing, commissions, and cash receipts
  • Review CIT, contracts in transit, vehicle receivables, warranty, and other dealership schedules
  • Ensure timely processing of payoffs, cancellations, refunds, and manufacturer receivables
  • Reconcile manufacturer statements, floorplan statements, and bank accounts
  • Maintain compliance with dealership policies, manufacturer requirements, and applicable tax regulations
  • Prepare and file sales tax and other required reports
  • Coordinate annual audits and provide requested documentation to outside CPAs
  • Develop and maintain effective internal controls to protect dealership assets
  • Identify accounting discrepancies and resolve issues efficiently
  • Supervise, train, and support accounting office employees across multiple locations

Qualifications

  • Previous automotive dealership accounting experience is required
  • Current or previous experience as an Automotive Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or experienced Office Manager
  • Strong understanding of dealership accounting processes and financial statements
  • Experience overseeing payroll and month-end close
  • Knowledge of dealership schedules, floorplan reconciliations, inventory, deal posting, and manufacturer accounting
  • Experience supervising or supporting an accounting team
  • Ability to manage competing priorities across multiple dealership locations
