A Controller is a senior-level finance professional responsible for overseeing accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal controls. Recruitment for this position typically involves sourcing candidates with strong backgrounds in accounting, finance, and leadership. Companies may use recruitment agencies, job boards, and internal referrals to find suitable candidates. To thrive in Controller Recruitment, you need a deep understanding of accounting and finance principles, relevant degrees such as a bachelor's in finance or accounting, and experience in talent acquisition. Familiarity with applicant tracking systems (ATS), HR management software, and knowledge of relevant certifications like CPA or SHRM-CP is often beneficial. These skills ensure you can identify, attract, and secure the best candidates for critical controller roles, supporting effective financial leadership in the company.

Birmingham, Alabama

Our client is seeking a Controller to direct general accounting execution, including ledger accuracy, project cost monitoring, financial statement preparation, and daily transaction oversight. This is a full-time, in-office position responsible for managing period-end close activities, short-term cash visibility, work-in-progress reporting, and coordination with banking partners and independent auditors.
As Controller, you will provide leadership across the accounting function, including oversight of team members supporting disbursements, invoicing, collections, and reconciliations, while retaining hands-on responsibility for critical deliverables. • Approve and monitor financial entries across billing, collections, payroll, and operating activity to ensure accuracy and adherence to internal standards
• Oversee project cost reporting and partner with operations personnel to review financial performance of active work
• Manage outstanding receivables, support collection planning, and oversee new account setup and electronic payment authorizations
• Review daily bank activity and utilize financial platforms to execute treasury-related tasks
• Compile and maintain WIP schedules in alignment with project activity and applicable accounting treatment
• Coordinate and complete monthly close activities, ensuring reconciliations and reporting outputs are finalized on schedule
• Generate internal reporting packages and assist with external financial reporting obligations as needed
• Maintain forward-looking cash visibility models to assist with operational and lender reporting needs
• Direct payroll processing cycles, including reconciliation of payroll data to financial records and tracking of employee leave balances
What We're Looking For:
• 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 4 years in a Controller or Assistant Controller capacity
• Experience working within ERP systems supporting accounting functions
• Strong ability to present financial information clearly to both internal and external stakeholders
