Job Type: Full-time
Reports to: Controller/CFO
Salary Range: $90,000–$120,000 annually, depending on experience

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Assistant Controller to join our construction company in Englewood, Colorado. This position will support the Controller in managing daily accounting operations, producing accurate financial reports, maintaining internal controls, and overseeing construction-specific accounting processes.

The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of general accounting principles, construction accounting, job costing, and Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting. This is a hands-on position that includes regular accounting data entry. The successful candidate must be highly organized, dependable, and committed to accuracy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform accurate and timely data entry for accounting transactions, job costs, invoices, payments, journal entries, and other financial records
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial closings
  • Prepare and review financial statements, account reconciliations, and journal entries
  • Maintain and analyze monthly WIP schedules
  • Review job costs, project budgets, committed costs, contract values, and cost-to-complete projections
  • Work with project managers to ensure WIP information and project forecasts are complete and accurate
  • Monitor overbillings, underbillings, project profitability, and revenue recognition
  • Support percentage-of-completion accounting and construction revenue recognition
  • Oversee or assist with accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, payroll, and general ledger activity
  • Review subcontractor and vendor documentation, including lien waivers, insurance certificates, and W-9s
  • Assist with cash-flow forecasting and management
  • Prepare information for annual audits, tax returns, insurance audits, and other financial reviews
  • Maintain effective accounting procedures and internal controls
  • Identify discrepancies and resolve accounting issues promptly
  • Support the Controller and leadership team with financial analysis and special projects

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field preferred
  • At least [3–5] years of accounting experience, preferably within the construction industry
  • Strong understanding of general accounting principles and financial reporting
  • Experience preparing and analyzing construction WIP schedules
  • Knowledge of job costing, percentage-of-completion accounting, overbillings, and underbillings
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Experience with construction accounting or ERP software preferred
  • CPA or CPA candidate is a plus but not required
