Role: Controller Consultant — Construction Industry
Location: Centennial, CO - In office
Engagement: Contract, up to 3 months
Compensation: $55 – $70 / hour, based on experience

We are seeking an experienced Controller Consultant to lead all accounting operations within a construction environment. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring deep construction accounting expertise, strong technical skills, and the ability to partner effectively with both financial and operational teams.
Responsibilities
Accounting Operations & Close
- Lead all core accounting functions including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and cash management
- Manage month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial statement preparation
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and financial processes in accordance with GAAP and applicable construction industry regulations
Construction Accounting
- Oversee job costing, percentage-of-completion revenue recognition, WIP schedule management, and contract compliance
- Analyze project profitability, costs, margins, backlog, and overall financial performance
- Partner with project managers and operational leaders to review budgets, forecasts, change orders, and job performance
Financial Planning & Reporting
- Lead annual budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning
- Provide financial reporting and strategic recommendations to executive leadership
- Coordinate external audits, tax filings, banking relationships, and surety reporting
Requirements
- 8+ years of controller experience with a minimum of 5 recent years in the construction industry required
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field required, CPA highly preferred
- Strong working knowledge of WIP schedules, job costing, and full-cycle month-end close required
- Experience with Viewpoint Vista highly preferred
- Solid understanding of GAAP and construction industry accounting standards
