Job description

About Riot Hospitality Group
Headquartered in Scottsdale, Arizona, Riot Hospitality Group is a premier, national hospitality management company dedicated to evolving the typical restaurant landscape into one that provides unique and meaningful experiences for each and every guest.
Here at RHG, we are passionately focused on transforming restaurant and nightlife hospitality. We have transformed the industry's landscape through pushing the envelope of the typical hospitality experience, while maintaining exceptional customer service. The brands under management include Dierks Bentley's Whiskey Row, El Hefe, Farm & Craft, Hand Cut, Riot House, CAKE, Cottontail Lounge / Living Room / WET Deck, Maya Day+Night, Shiv Supper Club, Kauboi, Allegra, and F/Sixteen.
Our mission is simple: To make every single hospitality experience better than the last. We pride ourselves on doing this through leading by example, and our passion for excellence is derived from a lifetime dedication to learning and a commitment to true hospitality.
Riot Hospitality Group is seeking a results-driven, hands-on Assistant Controller to lead the Accounting function across all of our locations in Arizona, Colorado and Tennessee!
The Assistant Controller supports the CFO in running day-to-day accounting for a multi-unit hospitality organization spanning nightclubs, bars, and restaurants across multiple states and legal entities. This is a hands-on role covering the close, balance sheet reconciliations, intercompany transactions, and cash/treasury processes across RHG's brands and locations. It also means supporting, leading and coaching a small team of staff accountants and A/P personnel. This is someone equally comfortable in the general ledger and in front of operations partners.
Key Responsibilities
Close, Reconciliations & Intercompany
  • Run a tight, well-documented close, for both the monthly calendar and the 13-period fiscal schedules, and hold the team to the deadlines.
  • Own intercompany transactions end to end utilizing Sage Intacct.
  • Improve balance sheet reconciliations to be more accurate and effective.
  • Support monthly corporate allocations, management fees, and intercompany billings: calculations, invoicing, and bank transfers to pay.
  • Review journal entries and reconciliations from the accounting team and give real feedback.
  • Find and fix the parts of the close that take too long, without cutting corners on accuracy or GAAP compliance.
  • Partner with the CFO on monthly reporting packages and variance analysis by location and brand.

Cash Management
  • Own weekly bank reconciliations across all accounts, including tip payments and credit card activity with support from the team.
  • Support day-to-day treasury functions and flag cash issues before they become a problem.

Tax & Compliance
  • Support the team on sales and use tax filings and payments across all locations, keeping documentation audit-ready. Must know and understand state sales tax filing and remitting processes.
  • Help maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls that protect assets and keep financial data accurate.

Team Leadership
  • Lead, coach and help develop a small team of staff accountants and A/P personnel.
  • Set clear expectations, manage workloads, and build the team's skills especially for reconciliation methodology and close discipline.
  • Be the point of escalation for accounting and A/P issues. Coach people through problems instead of taking the work off their plate.
  • Support the team's hiring, onboarding, and performance management with the CFO and HR.

Operations Partnership
  • Be a go-to accounting contact for General Managers and operations leaders across RHG's venues. Answer questions and work with operators to resolve issues fast in ways that non accountants will understand.
  • Reconcile and interpret POS data from restaurants and nightclubs, working with operations to track down discrepancies between POS reporting and the general ledger.
  • Communicate close deadlines, reporting requirements, and process changes clearly to people who don't live in accounting.

Systems & Reporting
  • Work in Sage Intacct as the primary general ledger and reporting system.
  • Build and maintain reconciliation workpapers in Excel: index formulas, pivot tables, lookups, etc.
  • Support the year-end audit and tax reporting process, including documentation requests from the external accounting firm.

Requirements
  • BS/BA in Accounting or Finance required; CPA and/or MBA or Master's degree preferred.
  • 4-7 years of progressive accounting experience, including exposure to multi-entity or intercompany work. Restaurant, hospitality, or nightlife industry experience is a strong plus.
  • Hands-on experience preparing financial statements and ensuring GAAP compliance.
  • Experience coaching and leading team members, serving as a go-to resource for questions while still hitting every deadline.
  • Proven ability to communicate accounting requirements clearly to operations staff and General Managers, translating financial detail into practical, actionable guidance for non-finance audiences.
  • Comfortable being a frequent, approachable point of contact for operations questions, on top of managing core accounting deadlines.
  • Experience building balance sheet account reconciliations from scratch, incorporating outside schedules and varied data sources such as lease agreements, insurance payment policies, and other outside systems.
  • Working knowledge of applying accounting principles such as ASC 842 and ASC 606 to real-world scenarios.
  • Experience with managing tight deadlines for a fiscal close schedule.
  • Strong Excel skills: formulas, pivot tables, large datasets.
  • Experience with Sage Intacct or a comparable ERP/general ledger system.
  • Comfortable working with or learning restaurant/hospitality POS systems.
  • Truly likes talking to operations partners and can translate specific accounting requirements into something non finance people can actually use and understand.
  • Patient leader who enjoys mentoring people.
  • Detail-oriented, but can still move fast enough to hit a tight close schedule.
  • Comfortable juggling competing deadlines across multiple entities, brands, and locations at once.
  • Good judgment and discretion with sensitive financial and personnel information.

Benefits
  • Fun work environment in a sweet location with an amazing and collaborative team!
  • 1 work-from-home day per week
  • Access to medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term & long-term disability, voluntary benefits, employee assistance program, and pet insurance
  • Paid Holidays, Vacation, & Sick Leave
  • Employee discounts at our many venues
  • Exclusive access to events, shows, and other happenings
