Description

The Controller is responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the organization, including accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, cash flow management, and regulatory compliance. This role provides financial leadership and strategic support to executive leadership and community operations while ensuring accurate financial reporting and strong internal controls. This is an onsite position at the company headquarters in Wauwatosa, WI. 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 

Financial Management and Reporting

Oversee daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and financial reporting.

Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.

Ensure timely and accurate completion of month-end and year-end close processes.

Monitor cash flow, banking activity, and financial performance across communities.

Develop and maintain financial controls and accounting procedures.

Oversee company credit card program.

Budgeting and Forecasting

Lead annual budgeting and forecasting processes for the organization and individual communities.

Analyze budget variances and provide recommendations to leadership.

Partner with operational leaders to monitor labor costs, occupancy trends, and departmental expenses.

Support strategic financial planning initiatives.

Compliance and Internal Controls

Ensure compliance with GAAP, federal and state regulations, and company policies.

Coordinate annual audits and support external auditors.

Maintain strong internal controls to safeguard organizational assets.

Oversee tax filings, financial compliance reporting, and other regulatory requirements.

Oversee systems of Medicaid billings to Managed Care Organizations for communities.

Leadership and Collaboration

Supervise onsite accounting and finance team members.

Provide financial guidance and support to Executive Directors and operational leaders.

Collaborate with leadership teams regarding financial performance and operational improvement opportunities.

Assist with acquisition integration, system implementations, and process improvements as needed.

Financial Analysis and Decision Support

Prepare financial analyses and KPI reporting for executive leadership.

Monitor occupancy, revenue, labor costs, accounts receivable aging, and operating margins.

Identify opportunities for cost savings, operational efficiencies, and financial improvement.

Support strategic decision-making through data analysis and forecasting.

Assist in decision-making of insurance coverage. 

Requirements

  QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.

CPA designation.

Minimum of 10 years of accounting or finance leadership experience required.

Experience in senior living or multi-site operations preferred.

Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.

Experience with payroll systems, accounting software, and financial management systems.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong financial analysis and problem-solving skills.

Excellent organizational and leadership abilities.

Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

Ability to communicate financial information clearly to operational leaders.

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software systems. Experience with Yardi software beneficial.
