Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Cardiovascular Progressive Care Unit (CVPC) position requiring stepdown and telemetry experience, with night shift hours and a minimum of 2 years of experience.

Details
  • Cardiovascular Progressive Care Unit (CVPC) in a hospital heart tower setting, located in Asheville, NC
  • 40-bed cardiac surgery stepdown unit (E4 - CVPC)
  • Primary patient population includes CV and vascular surgery patients (CABG, AVR, MVR, Bentall, TAVR, thoracic lung surgery, esophagogastrectomy, AAA repair, fem-pop bypass, carotid endarterectomies), with overflow medical cardiology patients (heart failure, DKA, chest pain, sepsis, heart block)
  • Patient ratio of 1:5 RN-to-patient; PCT ratio of 1:13
  • Night shift hours: 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
  • Minimum of 6 weekend shifts (Saturday and/or Sunday) per 6-week schedule period
  • No on-call requirements
  • Common procedures include epidural management, chest tube management, tube feedings, IV glucommander, and cardiac drip management (phenylephrine, dobutamine, dopamine, milrinone, cardizem, amiodarone, insulin, heparin, nitroglycerin, ketamine)
  • Equipment used includes Baxter IV pumps and CADD epidural pumps
  • EMR: Cerner
  • Floating required to any stepdown unit (1:5), med-surg unit (1:6–7), or ER inpatient holding area (1:6)
Requirements
  • Active NC RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA or ARC accepted; must not expire within the first 30 days of assignment)
  • Minimum 2 years of RN clinical experience
  • Stepdown experience required
  • Telemetry experience required
  • US SSN and DOB required for consideration — no exceptions; Canadian SSNs are not accepted
  • One professional reference required (two required for candidates from Florida or Missouri)
  • NIH Stroke Scale certification required for PCU RNs
  • No gaps in work history of 90 days or more within the past 12 months
Additional Information
  • Prior CV and vascular surgery experience (open heart, TAVR, lobectomy, AAA repair, fem-pop bypass) within the past year is preferred
  • CVICU experience is preferred
  • Night shift team staffing includes 1 charge RN (out of staffing), 13 RNs, 4 PCTs, and 0.33 HUC
  • Holiday coverage flexibility is expected
  • Scrub colors: all navy, white tops with navy bottoms, or all white
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not eligible for this position
  • Ideal candidates are team-oriented, flexible, and comfortable in a fast-paced environment
