Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Surgical Acute Telemetry unit (Tower 8) at a Level I Trauma Center, requiring a minimum of 2 years of telemetry experience and Level I trauma background.

Details
  • Acute care hospital setting on a Surgical Acute Telemetry unit (Tower 8), a 30-bed floor specializing in trauma, orthopedics, and surgical patients
  • Common patient diagnoses include post-op Day 1 transplants, Whipple procedures, spine surgeries, orthopedic joint cases, and trauma — with a notably high volume of transplant and Whipple patients
  • Patient ratio is 1:4–5
  • Telemetry monitoring via Philips equipment; ventilatory support includes BiPAP and CPAP
  • EMR: Cerner (experience required)
  • 12-hour night shifts
  • 3 weekend shifts required per 4-week period
  • Holiday coverage integrated into permanent staff rotation
  • Travelers are first to float; float destinations may include MS/Tele floors, as well as Westgate or AZ General Laveen campuses
  • SWAT RN (IV team), RT, and Pharmacy are available 24/7
  • Charge RN on unit does not take patients; 2 nurse aides on days and 1 on nights
  • 2-shift floor-specific orientation provided
Requirements
  • Active AZ RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
  • Current BLS (AHA) and ACLS certifications required; pending certifications not accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of telemetry nursing experience required
  • Level I Trauma Center experience required
  • Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam (basic or advanced) prior to offer confirmation; candidates have 2 attempts
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • Valid driver's license required for consideration (used to verify permanent address)
  • Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility; driver's license is used to confirm permanent address
Additional Information
  • Responsible for post-operative and trauma nursing care, including management of transplant and Whipple patients
  • Day 1 of orientation includes a pass/fail SIMs Lab assessment covering sterile Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes; nurses have been dismissed during SIMs Lab for breaking sterile field — candidates must be fully competent in sterile technique
  • Orientation also includes educational modules on lifts, restraints, and wound care
  • Failure of both Relias Dysrhythmia exam attempts or the sterile technique SIMs Lab test results in a 6-month DNU status with the CommonSpirit AZ and Sacramento regions
  • Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity-affiliated facility within the past year; candidates who worked PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
  • Navy scrubs required
  • Natural hair color required; no facial piercings permitted
  • Male candidates must be clean-shaven (for fit test compliance)
  • Candidates must have their own personal vehicle
