Position Purpose:

At the Connecticut Joint and Spine Institute within Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center, the Pre-Surgical Screening RN plays a vital role in preparing patients for elective orthopedic and spine surgeries. This nurse primarily conducts comprehensive preoperative assessments via phone, coordinating with anesthesia and surgical teams to ensure patients are medically optimized for surgery. This role supports patient safety, reduces surgical delays, and enhances the overall surgical experience.

What You Will Do:

  • Perform telephonic preoperative assessments, including medical history reviews, medication reconciliation, and risk screening.

  • Coordinate with anesthesia, surgeons, and primary care providers to ensure patients are cleared and optimized for surgery.

  • Educate patients on pre-surgical instructions and expectations.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required:

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program with an Associate's degree in Nursing is required.

  • Current Connecticut RN license.

  • The ideal candidate will have one or more years of perioperative or surgical experience in the acute setting.

Preferred:

  • BLS certification (American Heart Association or American Red Cross). Certification support is available post-hire.

Position Highlights:

  • Full-Time - 40 hours/week - Day Shift

  • Clinic hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM

  • Shifts are a combination of 8- and 10-hour shifts

  • Hourly position, included in RN Step Program pay range: $36.15 to $59.95
