Job description

OSS Accounting, Valuation & Transaction Advisory is seeking an experienced Tax Manager to lead our tax practice. This role is responsible for managing all aspects of tax compliance, tax planning, client communication, workflow management, and staff oversight.

The ideal candidate is technically strong, highly organized, client-focused, and capable of independently managing a portfolio of business and individual tax clients while maintaining exceptional service and quality.

Responsibilities

Tax Compliance

  • Prepare and review complex federal and state tax returns including:
    • S Corporations (1120-S)
    • Partnerships (1065)
    • C Corporations (1120)
    • Individuals (1040)
    • Trusts and Estates (1041)
    • Nonprofit Organizations (990)
  • Review staff-prepared returns for accuracy and completeness.
  • Research and resolve complex tax issues.
  • Ensure timely filing of all tax returns and extensions.

Tax Planning & Advisory

  • Develop proactive tax planning strategies for business owners.
  • Prepare year-end tax projections.
  • Advise clients on entity selection, estimated taxes, retirement planning, and tax-saving opportunities.
  • Respond to IRS and state tax notices.
  • Assist clients with tax elections and compliance matters.

Client Management

  • Serve as the primary tax advisor for assigned clients.
  • Conduct tax planning meetings.
  • Communicate deadlines, document requests, and recommendations.
  • Build long-term trusted advisor relationships.

Department Leadership

  • Manage tax workflow and production schedules.
  • Train, mentor, and review work of tax staff.
  • Monitor utilization and productivity.
  • Improve tax department processes and standard operating procedures.
  • Assist with hiring and onboarding tax personnel.

Technology

  • Utilize tax preparation and workflow software efficiently.
  • Maintain electronic workpapers and documentation.
  • Recommend automation and process improvements.

Qualifications

Required

  • Active CPA license.
  • 7+ years of public accounting tax experience.
  • Experience reviewing business and individual tax returns.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state taxation.

  • Experience with ProConnect Tax or similar cloud-based tax software.
