Position Summary

The Vice President, Tax will have overall responsibility for all aspects of tax strategy, planning, compliance, and accounting, as well as leadership of the Global Tax organization. The individual will work closely with the CFO, Treasurer, Controller, Internal Audit and business unit operating executives, and General Counsel to proactively identify opportunities to optimize the Corporation’s capital structure, cash flow flexibility, effective tax rate, and cash tax liabilities. The VP, Tax will be an integral team member in merger and acquisition activities, working closely with business group leadership, the Finance Department, and the Corporate Strategy and Business Development team to ensure that transactions are optimally structured and that the tax implications of potential acquisitions and divestitures are fully considered.

In addition, the VP, Tax will be responsible for developing a high-performing global tax team, fostering technical excellence and leadership capability, and supporting succession planning to build and sustain a best-in-class internal tax function. Specific tax responsibilities will include all U.S. and international tax research, planning, compliance, and tax provision activities.

  • Lead Huber’s Tax function and serve as an integral member of the Company’s senior financial leadership team. The VP, Tax will establish and prioritize appropriate goals for the Tax team, properly resource the function for execution, and oversee internal and external consulting resources in support of key initiatives, making judicious use of outsourcing relationships in the areas of strategic planning and compliance.
  • Lead tax-related strategic analysis and establish tax-efficient solutions for business activities, structures, and commercial transactions, including identifying and evaluating alternatives and recommending solutions to senior management.
  • Ensure the proper accounting and external financial reporting of income taxes, including the recognition and coordination of the book and tax effects of business activities and transactions. Ensure the adequacy of book-tax provisions, tax reserves, and deferred income taxes.
  • Review and monitor changes in domestic and foreign tax legislation, rulings, regulations, and litigation. Assess the relevant impact and recommend and implement responsive actions to manage existing positions and capture new opportunities.
  • Develop tax-efficient international and domestic legal entity structures with the goal of creating cost-effective cash investment and repatriation alternatives while promoting administrative efficiency.
  • Establish and maintain tax planning models to forecast the utilization of tax attributes, changes in tax positions, and other opportunities identified through proactive planning.
  • Manage the preparation and filing of federal, state, and local income and franchise tax returns. Interface with taxing authorities, including coordinating U.S. and foreign tax audits, negotiating tax issues, filing appeals, and directing litigation. Provide direction to external tax consultants and counsel, making judicious use of outsourcing relationships in the areas of strategic planning and compliance.
  • Manage and develop a high-performing tax team by creating a positive environment that challenges, motivates, and prepares team members for advancement in support of long-term succession planning.
  • Ensure adequate governance, guidance, and instruction for all Huber employees involved in the tax process, including those outside the U.S. who have matrix reporting relationships.
  • Continuously identify and execute process improvement opportunities across the Tax function and drive timely updates to key internal tax policies.
Specialized/Technical Knowledge or Required Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required. A master’s degree in Taxation or Accounting, an MBA, a JD, or CPA designation is strongly preferred.
  • 20+ years of experience within the tax function of a large, complex global corporation, including significant international tax experience. Big Four tax consulting or similar experience during the individual’s career is strongly preferred. The successful candidate must currently lead a Tax organization.
  • Approachable and influential leader who quickly gains trust and confidence through consensus-building and can operate effectively within a decentralized portfolio company with matrix reporting relationships.
  • Strong background in multinational tax compliance and planning, with an emphasis on corporate tax matters and M&A.
  • Proven hands‑on approach, with a willingness to roll up their sleeves while taking responsibility for the mentoring, technical development, and leadership development of less‑experienced tax professionals.
  • Demonstrated technical competence and proven ability to communicate tax issues in business-oriented language to peers, senior management, the Board of Directors, and the Audit and Finance Committee.
  • Proven track record of integrity, sound judgment, organizational development, and sustainable tax optimization.
