Job description

SGM is seeking a full-time, experienced (5-10 years), Building Structural Engineer for our Glenwood Springs, Gunnison, Salida, or Telluride offices, or Remote from the surrounding areas. Overall responsibilities will include fostering strong client relationships, developing new business, performing structural engineering design and preparation of construction documents, providing technical leadership and project management for building projects. Preferred technical skills/experience include the design of commercial and residential building structures; experience with other civil and industrial structures such as retaining walls, vaults, and pump stations is a plus but is not required; understanding of permitting and regulations related to structural projects; building inspection experience; and preparation of drawings, specifications, and contract documents. The successful candidate is expected to be a team player with strong written and verbal communication skills and a strong desire to live, work and play in Western Colorado.

Salary is DOE:

Engineer III (4-10 years): $89,600-$115,600

Engineer IV (8-15 years): $105,400-$131,300

Job Requirements:

  • BS degree in Structural Engineering, or Architectural, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering with a Structural focus
  • Colorado PE license or ability to transfer a license from another state within 6 months
  • Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in the structural design and construction of buildings
  • Consulting engineering experience
  • Excellent client service skills
  • Knowledge of building codes and material specific structural codes
  • Ability to use software to complete structural analysis and validate results with simplified methods
  • Experience with MS Office software such as Word and Excel
  • Residential and commercial structures design experience
  • Proficiency with REVIT and AutoCAD and generating Structural Contract Documents
  • Ability to self-manage design tasks and stay within project scope, schedule, and budget
  • Valid Driver's License

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS degree in Structural Engineering, or Civil Engineering with a Structural focus
  • Project management experience, including coordination of multiple disciplines and sub-consultants
  • Experience managing client relationships
  • Experience with preparing project scope, schedule, and budget for proposal and fee estimate efforts
  • Experience in structural design and detailing of concrete, steel, and timber members
  • Experience preparing structural design calculations and developing clear and concise calculation packages that are easily reviewed by senior staff and review agencies
  • Able to conduct site visits in a mountain environment
  • Experience with Structural Condition assessments and forensic structural engineering
