Contract Project Accountants are financial professionals who manage and oversee the accounting aspects of specific projects on a contract basis. They are responsible for budgeting, tracking project expenses, preparing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with financial regulations. These accountants often work with project managers to monitor costs, forecast financial needs, and ensure that projects stay within budget. Their contract status means they are typically hired for the duration of a project or a set period, rather than as permanent employees.

  • Administer project contracts by entering fee and budget information, updating contract documentation, and ensuring compliance with customer agreements and contract billing structures.
  • Generate project financial reports and analyze key performance metrics to support stakeholders in making informed financial and operational decisions.

  • Deliver responsive and professional customer service to internal teams and external clients regarding project financial matters.
  • Assist in mentoring junior accounting staff and contribute to the development of team capabilities in project accounting and financial operations.

Essential Skills
  • Demonstrated experience in project accounting, including managing the financial lifecycle of multiple concurrent projects.
  • Strong skills in budget management, including monitoring project budgets, tracking expenditures, and identifying variances.
  • Proficiency in client invoicing and billing processes, with the ability to align billing with contract terms and project milestones.
  • Experience providing support for accounts payable, including coding invoices, processing A/P transactions, and reviewing expense reports and timesheets.
  • Ability to perform financial reporting and analysis for projects, including generating reports and interpreting performance metrics.
  • Experience with collections management, including tracking outstanding receivables and supporting collection efforts.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles, general ledger processes, and construction accounting practices.
