Job description

PCSI is looking for a General Maintenance Worker for the Structures Department at our Total Facility Maintenance Fort Knox, Kentucky contract!
As a GMW, you will perform functions of the contract by making minor adjustments and repairs to plumbing, electrical, waste systems, architectural and structural building components, doors, windows, floor systems, light carpentry, roof systems. Preventative maintenance functions and minor repairs, including changing filters, cleaning cooling towers, heating and cooling coils, and changing fluorescent and other light bulbs, manufacture, repair, installation of screens and glass and ensuring all paperwork is completed. This position will report to the Structures supervisor and is based out of Ft. Knox, Kentucky. Typical work hours will be Monday through Friday from 7:00 am- 3:30 pm.

What You'll Do as General Maintenance Worker:
  • Minor adjustments and repairs to plumbing, electrical, waste systems, architectural and structural building components, doors, windows, floor systems, light carpentry, and roof systems.
  • Cleaning and maintaining of mechanical rooms.
  • Preventative maintenance functions and minor repairs, including changing filters, cleaning cooling towers, heating and cooling coils, and changing fluorescent and other light bulbs.
  • Manufacture, repair, and installation of screens and glass.
  • Sign maintenance to include inspections, replacement (setting/affixing) and painting.
  • Ensure all paperwork is completed.
  • Replacing electrical receptacles, wires, switches, fixtures, and motors
  • Using plaster or compound to patch minor holes and cracks in walls and ceilings
  • Repairing or replacing sinks, water coolers, and toilets
  • Painting structures and equipment
  • Repairing or replacing concrete floors, steps, and sidewalk
  • Replacing damaged paneling and floor tiles
  • Hanging doors and installing door locks
  • Replacing broken windowpanes.
  • Snow and Ice Removal Operations.

Roofs:
• Assess and make minor repairs to shingle, TPO, rock & seam & conventional rib metal roofing to include diagnostics of leaking points. Minor repairs to include tarping roof, placing water catching devices as needed to prevent interior property damage. Ability to make detailed notes of roofing type and leak location. Cutters & downspout repair and replacement.
Ceiling Tiles:
• Drop ceiling: Repair and/or replacement of ceiling tiles (2x2 & 2x4). Ceiling grid to include layout and installation of wall track, mains, cross Ts in preparation for replacement and/or new install. Installing insulation/sound proofing.
• Drywall ceilings: Removal of existing damaged drywall ceiling. Installation of new drywall to include taping of joints and finishing compounds (plaster, compound, texture etc.). using plaster to fill minor holes and cracks. Painting of ceiling.
Wood ceilings:
• Removal of damaged or existing wood panels. Knowledge of wood species for replacement to include
finishes (stain, clear coats).
Walls:
• Use of plaster or compound to patch holes, cracks, & dents. Removal of damaged drywall and replace with new to
include taping of joints and finishing. Proper sanding of compounds for smooth finish in preparation for paint. Repair
and installation of wall tiles to include but not limited to ceramic tile, subway tile, paneling, FRP, etc.
Painting:
• Painting of walls, doors, window casings, ceilings, concrete floors & walls, brick, cinder block, steps and landings, and
equipment.
Windows & Glass:
• Installation of new and replacement or fabrication of screens, replacement glass, sashes, mullion's, seals/gaskets,
weatherstripping, trim, locking hardware, hinges/pivots, balances, stops, jambs, sills, operator, handles, frames. This
includes door viewing kits. Removal and installation of mirrors. Repair and installation of window blinds (vertical and
horizontal). Tinting of windows.
Doors:
• Proper installation and adjustment of new and existing hinges, closers, seals, weatherstripping, latches and stops.
Proper removal of existing doors and frames. Installation of new doors and door frames to include welded and knock
down frames. This includes but not limited to hollow core, solid core, steel, and fire rated doors. Installation and
adjustment of verity of latches and locksets. Installation and adjustment of new and existing thresholds and recessed
matts. Repair and replacement of sliding style man doors. Painting of doors and jams.
Flooring:
• Replacement of damaged sheet carpeting, carpet squares, ceramic tile, clay tiles, quarry tiles, slate tiles, VCT and LVT
tile. Layout and installation of new carpet squares, ceramic tiles, clay tiles, quarry tiles, slate tiles, VCT and LVT tiles.
Removal and installation of wood, vinyl, and carpet base. Painting of epoxy coatings and other flooring paint
coverings. Grinding of existing coatings to include but not limited to glues, mortars, adhesives, thin sets, etc. Repair
and installation of stair treads and anti-slip devices.
Framing:
• Proper removal and demo of existing walls to include wood and metal stud framing. Framing with metal and wood
studs to proper spacing to include top and bottom plates. Installing of hat channel. Layout for any openings needed,
(doors, windows, openings). Insulation of walls using fiberglass, rock wool, sound bats, etc.
Masonry:
• Minor repairs to concrete, block and precast, to include but not limited to drilling and filling of holes, replacement of
block and brick, tuck pointing, caulking of expansion joints and sealant.
Drywall:
• Installation of new drywall to include finish work. Taping and finishing of joints installation of J-bead, L-bead, and
corner bead. Installing expansion joints. Use of plaster or drywall compound. Proper sanding of compounds for
smooth finish.
Furnishings:
• Basic knowledge of wood slices, coverings, mounting to include but not limited to, cabinets, countertops, vanities,
backsplashes, caulking, TV mounts, screen mounts, cork boards, dry erase boards, moving of furniture & equipment,
wall mounted handrails, etc. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Must have at least six (6) months of experience with the ability to perform the assigned duties.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, and climb ladders. Frequently required to kneel, squat, bend, and reach.
  • Required to be able to lift 50 lbs. up to 10 times per day.
  • Ability to perform a variety of maintenance tasks.
  • Knowledge of all maintenance trades in a maintenance environment (prior government contractor experience preferred).
  • Ability to use hand tools and power tools required for installation, maintenance and repair.
  • Must have the ability to successfully complete all applicable training modules assigned.
  • Must have the ability to effectively read, write, and speak the English language.

Other Requirements:
  • Ability to pass criminal, drug, and driving screening.
  • Ability to work outside in inclement weather as needed and be exposed to various dirt, debris, and odors.
  • Ability to work any time or day of the week, including weekends and holidays.
  • Possess valid driver's license and maintain good driving record.
  • If required, ability to obtain and maintain security clearance and base access to assigned site(s).
