The Commercial Manager will lead and coordinate all commercial management activities across the organization, working closely with Sales, Development & Engineering, Operations, Services, and Legal teams. Responsibilities include transaction structuring, contract negotiation and oversight, financial governance, risk management, procurement support, and third-party financier relationship management. The role is critical to maintaining commercial clarity, accelerating deal execution, and protecting profitability and compliance across projects

Our Commercial Manager's contributions to the team include:

Deal Structuring and Commercial Negotiation:

  • Leading negotiation and coordination of commercial terms in contracts with customers, vendors, funders, and other key delivery partners.
  • Owning the commercial structure of deals, ensuring terms align with internal financial models, risk tolerances, and governance standards.
  • Leading the commercial shaping of customer RFP responses to balance bid competitiveness with internal margin, risk, and delivery constraints

Financial Strategy and Performance Oversight:

  • Leading competitive and market analysis to support pricing strategy, deal structuring, and positioning.
  • Ensuring commercial alignment between project financial models and contractual structures.
  • Supporting budgeting, financial forecasting, and cost control related to deal structures and project execution.

Governance, Risk, and Compliance

  • Identifying commercial risks and develop appropriate mitigation strategies in collaboration with Sales, Development & Engineering, Operations, Services, and Legal teams.
  • Ensuring compliance with internal governance and deal approval processes.
  • Developing and maintaining commercial governance tools, reporting systems, and decision frameworks.

Cross-Functional and Strategic Enablement

  • Acting as central commercial liaison among Sales, Development & Engineering, Operations, Services, and Legal teams.
  • Providing commercial input into strategic planning, business development, and pipeline prioritization.
  • Informing Sales, Development & Engineering, Operations, Services, and Legal teams on commercial considerations from active deal experience. Drive continuous improvement in commercial processes, best practices, and internal knowledge sharing.

The core components of success are (i.e. must haves):

  • Bachelor's degree in business, Finance, Law, Engineering, or related field (MBA or equivalent preferred).
  • 7+ years of experience in commercial management, project development, or project finance within the clean energy or distributed energy sector.
  • Strong understanding of the commercial lifecycle of energy projects, including development, financing, construction, and long-term operation. Direct experience with distributed energy technologies such as rooftop and ground-mount solar PV, battery energy storage systems (BESS), microgrids, and energy efficiency projects located on customer premises preferred.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with a range of commercial agreements including:
    1. Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs)
    2. Early-stage project development agreements
    3. Installation/EPC contracts
    4. Operations & Maintenance (O&M) contracts, including those with long-term performance guarantees
    5. Funder documentation, including Heads of Terms, Letters of Intent, Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), and Assignment and Assumption Agreements
  • Proven experience managing third-party financiers and structuring complex commercial arrangements.
  • Demonstrated experience negotiating and structuring deals with a diverse mix of customers, including large corporate, municipal entities, K-12 school districts, and other public sector clients.
  • Experience calibrating commercial responses to competitive RFPs, with a focus on balancing bid competitiveness with margin protection, risk management, and execution feasibility.
  • Excellent negotiation, analytical, stakeholder management, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in financial modeling, contract management systems, and ERP tools.

The travel required for this position is approximately up to 10-20% of the time.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $140,000.00 - $180,000.00 + bonus + benefits. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
