What is a Contract Brand Designer?

A Contract Brand Designer is a creative professional who is hired on a temporary or project basis to develop and enhance the visual identity of a brand. Their main responsibilities include designing logos, selecting color palettes, creating brand guidelines, and ensuring that all visual elements consistently reflect the brand’s values and messaging. Unlike full-time employees, contract designers typically work independently or through agencies, collaborating with clients for specific branding projects. This role requires strong communication skills, an understanding of marketing strategy, and proficiency in design software. Contract Brand Designers help businesses establish a strong, cohesive presence in the market.

How does a Contract Brand Designer typically collaborate with in-house marketing and product teams?

As a Contract Brand Designer, you will often work closely with in-house marketing and product teams to ensure brand consistency and alignment across all visual assets. This collaboration usually involves regular check-ins, feedback sessions, and sharing project updates via tools like Slack or project management platforms. You'll be expected to interpret briefs, adapt to evolving brand guidelines, and incorporate feedback swiftly, all while managing your own time effectively. Building strong communication skills and being adaptable are key to success in this dynamic, cross-functional role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Contract Brand Designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Contract Brand Designer, you need strong visual design skills, proficiency in brand strategy, and a portfolio demonstrating creative branding work, often supported by a degree in graphic design or a related field. Mastery of design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, and knowledge of branding guidelines and asset management systems are crucial. Exceptional communication, adaptability, and the ability to interpret client needs set standout designers apart. These skills ensure the delivery of cohesive, impactful brand identities that meet client objectives and drive business value.

Graphic Designer (Contract)

Soluna

Job description

Soluna is on a mission to solve one of renewable energy's biggest challenges: wasted power. Our data centers convert excess solar, hydro, and wind energy into productive computational work; Bitcoin mining, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. By co-locating with renewable generation, we bring demand directly to the source, helping power plants monetize stranded megawatts and put more clean energy on the grid.
We're looking for a part-time Graphic Designer to join our world-class team.
Why join Soluna?
We are a diverse, driven team of entrepreneurs, energy experts, private equity leaders, storytellers and engineers. We are passionate about making the world greener and we have conviction about how we will bring change on a global scale.
The Opportunity
We're looking for a reliable, detail-oriented freelance graphic designer to support day-to-day creative needs across marketing, communications, investor relations, and social media for Soluna Holdings.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, can work within an existing brand system, and enjoys turning rough ideas or existing assets into polished, professional materials.
What You'll Do
Responsibilities may include:
  • Cleaning up and polishing presentations and pitch decks
  • Designing PDFs, one-pagers, case studies, and marketing collateral
  • Creating social media graphics and visual assets for press releases
  • Updating existing branded materials
  • Supporting quarterly reports, partnership announcements, company milestones, and event-related design needs
  • Maintaining consistency across brand visuals and templates

What Makes This Role Different
Most core brand assets, templates, and visual systems have already been developed by our lead designer, so this is not a "build the brand from scratch" role. Instead, we're looking for someone who can efficiently work within existing creative guidelines and execute high-quality day-to-day design work with speed and attention to detail.
You'll have access to extensive reference materials, established design elements, and prior examples to build from.
Who You Bring
  • Strong graphic design portfolio across presentations, digital assets, and marketing materials
  • Experience working with established brand systems
  • Comfortable taking direction and executing quickly
  • Strong eye for typography, layout, and visual consistency
  • Organized, responsive, and able to manage shifting priorities
  • Experience designing for tech, infrastructure, energy, AI, or B2B brands is a plus

Tools
Preferred experience with:
  • Adobe Creative Suite
  • Figma
  • Canva
  • Google Slides / PowerPoint
  • Engagement Details
  • Freelance / contract role
  • Approximately 8-10 hours per week on average
  • Some periods will require increased support around quarterly reporting cycles, major announcements, or company milestones
  • Flexible remote work arrangement

Why join Soluna?
At Soluna, your work won't sit in a folder collecting dust; it will directly support how we tell our story, communicate our mission, and bring our brand to life across investors, partners, customers, and employees. As a part-time contract Graphic Designer, you'll have the opportunity to create impactful, visible work spanning presentations, digital content, brand materials, social media, and marketing collateral for a company operating at the intersection of renewable energy and technology infrastructure.
You'll collaborate with a diverse, driven team of entrepreneurs, energy experts, storytellers, operators, and engineers who are passionate about building a greener future through innovation. We value creativity, fresh perspectives, and people who can bring ideas to life visually in a way that feels thoughtful, polished, and authentic to our mission.
