What is a contract brand designer?

A Contract Brand Designer is a creative professional who is hired on a temporary or project basis to develop and enhance the visual identity of a brand. Their main responsibilities include designing logos, selecting color palettes, creating brand guidelines, and ensuring that all visual elements consistently reflect the brand’s values and messaging. Unlike full-time employees, contract designers typically work independently or through agencies, collaborating with clients for specific branding projects. This role requires strong communication skills, an understanding of marketing strategy, and proficiency in design software. Contract Brand Designers help businesses establish a strong, cohesive presence in the market.

How does a contract brand designer typically collaborate with in-house marketing and product teams?

As a Contract Brand Designer, you will often work closely with in-house marketing and product teams to ensure brand consistency and alignment across all visual assets. This collaboration usually involves regular check-ins, feedback sessions, and sharing project updates via tools like Slack or project management platforms. You'll be expected to interpret briefs, adapt to evolving brand guidelines, and incorporate feedback swiftly, all while managing your own time effectively. Building strong communication skills and being adaptable are key to success in this dynamic, cross-functional role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a contract brand designer?

To thrive as a Contract Brand Designer, you need strong visual design skills, proficiency in brand strategy, and a portfolio demonstrating creative branding work, often supported by a degree in graphic design or a related field. Mastery of design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, and knowledge of branding guidelines and asset management systems are crucial. Exceptional communication, adaptability, and the ability to interpret client needs set standout designers apart. These skills ensure the delivery of cohesive, impactful brand identities that meet client objectives and drive business value.

Job description

WE'RE LUMA HEALTH.
Needing healthcare can be hard - getting care shouldn't be.
We built Luma Health because we are all patients. We believe it should be easy to see and connect with our doctor. To get the care we need, when we need it.
So, we've created solutions to fix this problem. Our technology makes messaging easier, scheduling appointments more efficient, and it modernizes care delivery from beginning to end.
Production Brand Designer
Luma Health is looking for a Production Brand Designer who can bring our brand to life in a variety of mediums.
This is a high-output design role focused on execution, consistency, and production-quality assets that reinforce our visual identity across every touchpoint. You'll help bring our stories, events, campaigns, and customer moments to life through on-brand, beautifully crafted design work. If you thrive on shipping clean, clear visuals, this role is for you.
You'll work within our brand guidelines and templates but have the creative flexibility to enhance and elevate. You'll collaborate across the revenue team to deliver what they need quickly and reliably.
This is not an art director role. This is for someone who wants to design a lot of things very well, and get better every time.
What YOU will do at Luma Health
Core Responsibilities
  • Produce high-quality graphics and layouts for:
    • Social media and blog visuals
    • Sales decks and one-pagers
    • Webinar and podcast visuals
    • Event signage and assets
    • Conference and speaker decks
    • Email banners
    • Customer stories and case study layouts
  • Support iterative updates to existing templates, decks, and materials
  • Help prep final design files and handoff assets to external vendors or partners
  • Organize design files and templates in shared folders (Google Drive, Canva, Figma, etc.)

Collaboration & Process
  • Report to the Brand Design Lead to maintain visual brand consistency
  • Partner with Content and Events teams to prioritize incoming design needs and meet fast-moving deadlines
  • Participate in creative reviews and bring thoughtful, solution-oriented feedback
What Success Looks Like
  • High volume of consistently high-quality assets delivered on time
  • Internal teams trust and rely on you to make things look good and get them out the door
  • Brand guidelines are followed and reinforced through everything you ship
  • Visual updates, tweaks, and turnarounds happen fast, without sacrificing quality
  • The brand feels consistent across sales, web, social, and events
Who You Are
  • You are energized by execution. You like getting things done well and quickly.
  • You're not precious about your work but care deeply about craft and clarity.
  • You take feedback well, give it constructively, and thrive on iteration.
  • You're organized, reliable, and efficient, especially under pressure.
  • You can juggle multiple projects at once and still keep details crisp.
What You Bring
  • 3-5 years of experience in a graphic design or production design role (in-house or agency)
  • Strong proficiency with design tools (Figma, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite)
  • Excellent layout, typography, and visual hierarchy instincts
  • Portfolio showcasing clean, clear, brand-consistent design work across digital and print
  • Experience applying and working within brand systems and design guidelines
  • Bonus: experience designing for healthcare, B2B SaaS, or regulated industries
Why This Role Matters
Great content is only powerful if it looks great too. This role is the glue that helps Luma's brand show up with clarity and consistency across every surface.
If you're a reliable, sharp, and fast production designer who wants to build a better healthcare system through better design, we'd love to work with you.
Don't meet every single requirement? At Luma Health we are dedicated to building an inclusive workplace so if you're excited about this role but your past experience doesn't align with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyways. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles.
Luma Health is proud to be an Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action employer. We believe in order to thrive, businesses need a diverse team and leadership. We welcome every race, religion, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, age, status as a protected veteran, status as an individual with a disability, genetic information, or other applicable legally protected characteristics. Everyone is welcome here.
Come join us if you want to make a difference in health care.
Pay Transparency Notice: This is a ongoing contract position requiring a 20-hour/week commitment. Depending on your work location and experience, the target hourly salary for this contract position can range from $45/hour to $70/hour USD.
