About the Role
Avenue Z is seeking a strategic and experienced Associate Director, Consumer PR with a focus on brand-building and high-profile reputational management. In this leadership role, the Associate Director will lead integrated communications programs for consumer brands and high-profile individuals, including celebrities and cultural figures. The successful candidate will have deep experience in earned media, influencer and talent partnerships, and consumer storytelling across lifestyle, entertainment, and tech-adjacent categories. A background in agencies or in-house brand communications for major consumer, entertainment, or media brands is highly preferred.
Responsibilities
Consumer PR Leadership:
  • Oversee high-profile client accounts focused on consumer brands and personal image management, ensuring the development and execution of sophisticated, insight-driven communications strategies.
  • Lead integrated PR campaigns that span earned media, social, influencer, and experiential, driving brand awareness, affinity, and engagement.
  • Manage reputational issues and crisis communication for brands and high-profile individuals, ensuring timely, strategic, and coordinated responses across channels.

Content & Storytelling Development:
  • Craft and refine key messaging, including pitches, press releases, talking points, op-eds, thought leadership, and executive/celebrity platforms that support brand and product campaigns.
  • Collaborate on content that highlights brand purpose, cultural relevance, and innovation across consumer, lifestyle, entertainment, and tech-adjacent spaces.
  • Partner with creative, social, and digital teams to ensure consistent storytelling across channels and formats.

Strategic Development:
  • Develop and execute strategic communication plans that connect consumer insight, cultural trends, and media landscapes for clients in categories such as lifestyle, entertainment, big tech, media, and consumer fintech.
  • Use data, social listening, and audience insights to inform strategies, refine narratives, and identify whitespace opportunities for brand storytelling.
  • Contribute to new business development, including strategy, positioning, and pitch participation for consumer and reputation-led opportunities.

Stakeholder and Team Management:
  • Act as the primary point of contact for client relations, ensuring that all communications and strategies align with client objectives and KPIs.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to junior staff, fostering growth in consumer PR, media relations, and reputational management.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with paid, social, creative, and analytics teams to ensure cohesive execution of multi-faceted communication programs.

Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience in consumer PR, brand communications, or integrated communications, ideally within sectors such as lifestyle, entertainment, tech, or media.
  • Proven track record of leading high-impact consumer campaigns, managing high-profile reputational issues, and handling crisis communications.
  • Experience working at agencies or in-house for major consumer, entertainment, or media brands is highly preferred.
  • Strong media relationships across consumer, lifestyle, entertainment, and/or business/tech press, plus familiarity with influencer and talent ecosystems.
  • Exceptional writing, communication, and presentation skills, with an ability to distill complex or nuanced topics into clear, compelling consumer narratives.
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degrees (Master's/MBA) are a plus.
