Assistant Controller

This highly visible position serves as the Controller's primary business partner, helping oversee accounting operations, financial reporting, and strategic initiatives while supporting the company's continued expansion.

Key Responsibilities
  • Partner with the Controller to oversee daily accounting operations and ensure accurate financial reporting
  • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes while meeting reporting deadlines
  • Prepare and review financial statements, journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and supporting schedules
  • Review work-in-progress (WIP) schedules, job costing, overbillings, underbillings, and percentage-of-completion accounting
  • Coordinate annual financial statement audits and serve as the primary contact for external auditors
  • Analyze financial performance, investigate variances, and provide recommendations to leadership
  • Collaborate with Accounts Payable, Billing, Collections, and Operations to improve workflows and strengthen internal controls
  • Identify opportunities for automation, process improvements, and operational efficiencies
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, acquisitions, and other strategic finance initiatives
  • Mentor and support members of the accounting team while preparing to assume expanded leadership responsibilities

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • Seven or more years of progressive accounting experience
  • Strong background in construction accounting is required
  • Previous experience leading, mentoring, supervising, or managing accounting professionals, even without direct reports today
  • Experience with month-end close, financial reporting, general ledger accounting, and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Knowledge of work-in-progress reporting, job costing, overbillings, underbillings, and percentage-of-completion accounting
  • Experience supporting annual external audits
  • Familiarity with construction ERP systems
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, accounting controls, and financial reporting
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Ability to work independently while building strong partnerships across departments
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship
