Overview
JOB SUMMARY:
The Console Operator is primarily responsible for rapid accurate and courteous processing of intercommunication systems.
Responsibilities
POSITION SPECIFIC DUTIES (other duties may be assigned)
Answers incoming calls, screens and forwards as appropriate. Provide friendly competent customer service on the telephone and in person with staff, patients, medical staff, peers, administrators and other customers.
Answer and process all incoming calls from X-tend Phone System in a timely manner
Maintain accurate directory information.
Shares information changes or messages concerning On-Call schedule with fellow operators.
Maintain department equipment, which includes: Consoles, PC, handsets, headsets, maintains and clean workstation at the end of each shift, logging off any console not in use.
Follow hospital and department policies & procedures/ safety policies & procedures. Maintains professional attitude and appearance; wears nametag.
Attends assigned classes and meetings reads assigned material.
Announce all codes/ Monitor all alarms: code blue, code red, triage.
Maintain list of house staff and location, maintain patient name and location, list on-call staff for evening, night and weekend duty. Operate overhead paging system, use personal pager when available.
Answer all incoming calls from X-tend Phone System, and route to various Departments. Transfer interoffice telephone calls, set up conference calls. Provide service for the deaf by using TDD phone.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS/JOB REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION:
  • High school diploma or equivalent

EXPERIENCE:
  • One year experience as a console/switchboard operator with 10 or more incoming lines preferred
  • Experience in a Hospital setting preferred
  • Experience in a Corporate setting may be considered

OTHER SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE:
  • Professional and effective communication to include good written and verbal English
